Y Magazine has been touted by many in the capital city of Quetzal as the best-selling news, travel, living, and pop culture magazine in the Kingdom of Einmyria. Since it's first publication in 1960, the magazine has won many regional and international awards in the media world for it's insightful, truth-of-the-matter writing and coverage on a variety of issues. Naysayers however insist that the magazine is merely a government loudspeaker for propaganda statements. Government officials have yet to confirm or deny the allegations.
Described by KOEN3 News reporter Jan Forrester as a "meeting between Foreign Policy, National Geographic Travel, and New York Magazine," the magazine purports to provide readers with a global perspective on international affairs, breaking away from traditional, regionalized journalistic canons. Since the advent of the internet, it has shifted from being a solely print-media magazine to a print magazine and online-multimedia website requiring subscription access. The 50% price premium for a subscription is said to facilitate delivery and enhanced web content on it's website, y-read-online.
Y Magazine has made use of the free speech policy in Einmyria to comment on the government and it's multi-actor interests, and especially, on the increasingly-pervasive issue of corruption at the mid to top level government. It once had an article blaming the government for exacerbating the problem by legalizing voluntary indebtiture, so that corruption and nepotism-like practices would be "accepted" under legal rules, but no moves had been made to engender the issue.
Some journalists in the magazine joke around that one day, they will write something that takes things too far and find themselves being dragged away by mysterious looking men in black trench-coats, never to be seen again. That hasn't happened yet, but given the government's keenness on maintaining the status quo, the foreign ministry did issue several warnings for a few of the more risque articles (dealing with the true history of Einmyria's erotica writers), saying that the magazine should have at least a parental advisory warning on issues that minors might not be ready to read yet. Interestingly enough, the issue only increased the readership and popularity of the magazine.
