Apex League Results

This page was blanked by you, and has now had a delete tag inserted, which I have changed to inclusion for the moment, as I don't think it really meets the criteria for speedy deletion. As you blanked it and have done nothing further, I assume you are happy for us to delete it?Gruen2alk 21:13, 8 November 2005 (GMT)

Protection level

I appreciate all you're doing to deal with the spam, but for some of the pages that require protection, could you make it so that at least registered members can create/edit them, instead of just sysops? For the user/talk pages for random spam IP addresses, it obviously doesn't matter, but Umma-Gumma, for example, is a real nation and the player should at least have the option to create a page about it. ;) Thanks! --Omigodtheykilledkenny 16:42, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Ah yes, good point - I'll get and change them now. Thanks for the heads up mate. Bettia (talk) 16:46, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Errant block

Is there a particular reason my IP address (70.181.171.159) has been blocked (aside from human error, that is)?

Speedy deletion request

Hi Bettia, thanks for the message.

I do intend to write up an article for Acadia itself. Whilst waiting to hear about whether my request for that speedy deletion would be OK or not, I decided to write up some history pages ready to flesh out my article.

I hope this answers your question and I did not know how or where to reply to your message so I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

Jolt deleted the old NationStates forums

In regards to the section "Jolt links no longer work" on the main page, they not only no longer work, but the whole NationStates forums on Jolt have been deleted. --marian 15:38, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

So they have - that's a bugger. And I can't find anything on archive.org either. Bettia (talk) 17:40, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Deletions and Speedy deletes

Ah, only just seen your notice on the deletion page regarding my request. Thanks for that, I'll remember that from now. - Viridia

A question.

I want to make a article for my Royal House and to add a little 'glitter' to it, I sought out the thing used on Wikipedia for Royal Houses, using the House of Orange-Nassau as a example. Anyway, I thought that it would be a copy paste kind of thing... But that wasn't true. Anyway, so my question is:

How do I modify this thing:

Into something that I can use on NSWiki? I'm sorry to bother you if it's already in one of the help sections and such but I couldn't find it and well, you guys are here to help us... Right? :)

EDIT: It came out pretty fucked up, I know. >_>

--Grittonia 22:38, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I was hoping copying over the template code from Wikipedia to create Template:Royal house would work, but it doesn't appear to - the discussion over at Template talk:Infobox seems to explain why. Ah well, I guess this'll have to be built from scratch. If I can I'll get onto it tomorrow. Bettia (talk) 23:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Grittonia

Thanks

Thank you for the welcome, I will be sure to remember that next time. Perhaps there should be a template for external link spam, considering the advent of zillions of spambots?

--Vincaelumiata 22:11, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Yep, we've had to deal with a LOT of spam, although the deluge of a few months ago has died down a bit to an annoying trickle. As far warning spammers goes, there's not really much point as under the Linkspam Guidelines, they are automatically blocked indefinitely. As long as we are made aware of what pages are being spammed, we can deal with it in the proper fashion. Bettia (talk) 12:29, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Also thank you for the work you did last night with blocking spammers / deleting spam pages. --Todd McCloud 14:12, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Vincra appears to have been nominated for speedy deletion by the author himself, so it probably does meet the standards for a speedy delete. --Kenny 70.181.166.87 18:10, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks Bettia for taking care of some of the spam and vandalism that pops up on my wiki pages. I'm sure everyone here has put in plenty of time and effort on their pages and I for one am glad that someone else out there is helping to fix problems and get rid of these people.

Sabotage?

What do I do about users who it appears are deliberately editing things to "sabotage" me? Nordrige 11:32, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Facebook invite

I've sent a friend request to you on facebook. This might allow us to coordinate more easily. I have a few questions to you about current anti-spam procedures! You seem to be handling it quite well, and in bulk too. I wish to learn from your example. Knootoss 18:13, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah, so that was you! I thought it may have been one of my refereeing colleagues. Fee free to ask questions, as it seems your adminship is going to be a mere formality now I may put up a page (either in my userspace or in NSwiki space) detailing how to zap those silly little spambits. —BETTIA— talk 16:08, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, I think I've got it down for now, after reading through some of the material already available. I would also suggest that we protect pages to ban unregistered users from editing pages under attack, until Goober will change the rules so that nobody can edit anything while not logged in. Knootoss 11:11, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Yep, if it's an existing page, it should be semi-protected so only registered users can edit it. I've finished my little guide too at [User:Bettia/Dealing with spam]]. —BETTIA— talk 11:36, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Article Criticism

Hey Bettia,

I had self-nominated my nation article Oiseaui, so that the other NS Wiki users would critique it. However, due to the complete stop of FAC Queue movement, people don't seem to look at nominees nearly as much as they used to. Would you be willing to take a look at my article and leave your criticisms? It'd be greatly appreciated.
--Oiseaui 22:59, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion

It has to do with my history. Initially, my nation was located elsewhere and then moved to a new region after the original location was destroyed by nuclear explosions and stuff. Thus, the old place was called Old Bisgea. Now, my history was retconned. We never moved to a new location, thus there is no Old Bisgea ICly. Bisgea 11:57, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Short pages advisory

Good morning Bettia, it has been brought to my attention that a number of short pages on NSWiki are empty (zero bytes). Some have been blanked by the users which created them, some having done so as early as 2009, while some have been done maliciously. Because anonymous editing is now disabled, it is probably an appropriate time to delete the empty pages because their presence artificially wastes disk space on NSWiki, no matter how small it is. Thanks. --Marian 03:09, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Bugger me, that's a hell of a number! I'll get onto it later - thanks for pointing these out. —BETTIA— talk 05:57, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Spam, again

Hi, this time my concern about the recent wave of spam, particularly the image uploading spammer, is that it may be coming from the same IP address. That means, I think it should be known to the admins that IP blocking powers should not be done away with completely. Thanks for your awareness, --Marian 23:55, 16 October 2011 (PDT)

Unfortunately I don't have the tools for looking up users' IP addresses so I can't tell if this is the case - maybe this is a bureaucrat area. —BETTIA— talk 06:38, 17 October 2011 (PDT)

Suggestion for draft article User:Bettia/Dealing with spam

In the subsection Deleting, there should be a bit where it says:

For spammers who post pornography or even child pornography, the IP address and evidence must be saved so that an abuse report can be filed with the ISP or law enforcement. The abuse report email for ISPs is usually in the form of abuse@example.com.

It has not happened before, but all scenarios should be considered. --Marian 17:29, 3 November 2011 (PDT)

FYI, Category:Candidates for spam blocking now exists to aid in the blocking of spambots. Ad’ihan 04:52, 26 December 2011 (PST)

Nice work, they're certainly worth keeping an eye on although I don't think pre-emptive blocking is in order. We'll just have to wait for them to spam, although if they haven't done so immediately after the account's created, they'll probably lay idle. Bettia talk 11:59, 28 December 2011 (PST)

Undeletable images?

It appears that some images you have tried to delete were not really deleted so I had to re-tag them. If you still cannot delete those images then we may need to get a technician. --Marian 08:57, 25 January 2012 (PST)

Unnecessary article and request for speedy deletion

Hello,

I've been looking through some pages on the wiki and I've found that the article Whirl Islands national football team, which is about my puppet's national football team:

1) Was created by another person without my permission. If I wanted to create it and if I had felt that it was really needed to create it, I'd have done that by myself, and...

2) Contains just a flag picture, which means this article represents nothing more but spam. Articles like these one are just fillers and I think that if they don't contain any data of interest, they should be deleted. I'm not interested in keeping it as I don't see it as necessary for the moment. Thanks. --Valladares 18:01, 18 February 2012 (PST)

Nominations format

Hi, I'm -Iro (Ironicness) and I've nominated myself to be an admin on the NSwiki:Admin_nominations page. Some friends of mine were wondering in what format they should cast their votes, like write "Nominated" or make a # or what? Could you shed some light on this so admins know if I've achieved the required number of nominations?

Thanks, -Iro (Ironicness) 16:25, 22 August 2012 (PDT)

Wiki status

I'm back from an NS summer holiday. What's the current status of the wiki? As I post this it seems to be a bit less spamalicious/unstable. Is this luck on my part or has there been a security update? --Knootoss 17:01, 8 September 2012 (PDT)

Hurrah

This is very good. There are some people on the forums complaining about not being able to reach the site via proxies though. I am less than sympathetic. --Knootoss 06:58, 17 September 2012 (PDT)

Deletion

Greetings,

Could you please delete the article The Government of Rethymnon? It is extraordinarily outdated and it's supposed function has been replaced by other articles. If you can, please remove the talk page of that article as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Would it be ok if I translated my articles into another language and post them anew? I just want to make sure that I'm not braking any rules.

Vandalism

Check the history of http://nswiki.net/index.php?title=File:Flag_of_Minoa.gif. It appears that Chamoise vandalised the page an we need someone to remove an offensive edit. Thanks. --Marian(chirp) 19:33, 10 February 2013 (PST)

I've deleted the revision in question - the edit itself may not have been offensive (I'll go out on a limb, assume good faith and say it was a test edit), but the woman in the picture certainly is! ~~ Bettia ~~ talk 02:25, 11 February 2013 (PST)
