The Conglomerate is the name given to a nation scattered between several planetary systems, with the government being currently based on a rocky planet within the Veraugen system. The nation's long history is rooted firmly in the ideals of free-market capitalism, and has bee relatively isolationist with most advanced interstellar entities. Though, with its own regional neighbors it has always been highly involved politically.
The government itself is best described as a democratic republic with anachronisms dating back to imperialistic ages, though their influence has diminished to a fraction of their former selves in recent years. The anatomy of the government is split into the executive, sub-exectutive; parliament itself bicameral, and the judiciary.
The administration is run by a conglomeration of representatives from the civil population, corporations, and the military, with a member of the sub-executive being appointed by each, who in turn come to an agreement as to who is appointing to the actual executive position of Minister of War and Foreign Affairs.
The legislature is a bicameral parliamentary system, dividing power between the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Society, with the later having a majority being vested with a significant majority of legislative power, due in part to the Chamber of Commerce being a primarily overseeing body that modifies expenditure bills and makes recommendations to legislation as it goes to the Society floor.
The Judiciary, like most countries with a similar layout, exists to check the powers of the legislative branch by ensuring no act of Parliament violates the Conglomerate Constitution, or violates basic tenets of Electronian rights as decreed to be sacrosanct in the Professio of Vox. The judges at the supreme and appellate levels serve for life, while those at lower levels are elected by their local constituencies.
Pre-Ascension
The Conglomerate traces its roots back some 3,000 years from present, when the four superpowers of Iiathum joined into one governmental body once practical space-flight capabilities had been discovered.
Contemporary Conglomerate
Things have remained relatively quite for the Conglomerate. The government is still rather isolationist, but has recently attempted to increase it's influence in the system of Sol, a large hub of international trade in the galaxy some 7,500 light years away. The military is readying a deployment of 30 ships to the fourth planet of this system to assist the nation of Auman, a Vascilian ally, in patrols and the security of his space.
Life in the Conglomerate
The average Conglomerate citizen has a lifespan of about one hundred and fifty years. Females living just as long as men. Most are also attend a facility of higher education.
