Tawsanggai
Tawsanggai (Sraotha: City of Tawsina) is a self-governed region in the northeast mountains of Snefaldia, named for the central city in the homeland of the Tawsini ethnic group. Officially called a "Grant Region," the Tawsini government manages and owns the land under a "grant charter" from the Snefaldian government, originally dispensed in 1907 by the Republican government.
An oasis in the harsh northern mountains, the area was colonized by the Tawsini after their expulsion from Sring Issa in the first millennium, with the central city of Tawsanggai as the only permanent settlement of the transhumance inhabitants. They resisted attempts to annex their land starting in the 17th and 18th centuries, before concluding a treaty with the Republic in 1907 that bestowed the grant charter on the city.
Under the States-Federation government, the Tawsini are granted the right to self-governance and involvement in Snefaldian politics. In 2008, a group of Tawsini formed the Federal Party to increase the voice of the region in the Parliament. The Tawsanggai government has also put pressure on Sargedain to issue a new grant charter to the region, with modification of the original terms.
