The Sorthern Union of Students Football League (also known as the Students' Union League or SU League) is a Sorthern football league football competition organised by the Sorthern Union of Students for its members. Whilst in some countries college and university football plays a major role in developing future professional level players, the Sorthern Union of Students Football League is very much an extra-curricular part of Sorthern university life organised mainly as a social activity. Despite this the teams finishing in first, second and third at the end of the season qualify for the International University Challenge Championship (IUCC).
The league came into existence into 2041 shortly after the Sorthern Union of Students had voted to send teams to the International University Challenge Championship. Whilst football has long been played in Sorthern Northland it had always been at a local and informal basis. Twenty of the student unions most keen for involvement in the IUCC were then invited to form a national league which would be used to decide Sorthern Northland's IUCC qualifiers.
In its early years the league was dominated by the Beningrad University of the Bleeding Obvious who won the league in each of it's first three seasons and the Little Clotaire based Saint Patrick's University who were runners up in each of the first four seasons. University of the Fine Arts, from Snowspire became the first team other than the University of the Bleeding Obvious to win the league in the first 2044 season. University of the Bleeding Obvious however reclaimed the league in the second 2044 season.
The league is made up of twenty teams. In contrast to senior Sorthern football teams do not play each home and away but just once once a season for a total of nineteen matches per team per season. Three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the league table by points gained, then goal difference and then goals scored. In the event that two or more teams finish the season equal in all these respects, teams are separated by alphabetical order, unless a IUCC qualification or relegation is at stake, when the teams are separated by a play-off game.
The teams finishing in the first three positions of the league qualify for the International University Challenge Championship.
