Region Tags categorize regions according to various characteristics such as size, political leaning, gameplay/roleplay orientation, etc., to make it easier for new nations to search for regions that might interest them. For example, a region bearing the "World Assembly" tag would naturally draw players with an interest in that world body, while regions bearing the "Defender" or "Raider" tags would lure more players interested in the regional military game. Some tags are added to regions automatically, like those indicating size ("Small," "Medium," "Large," etc.) and game-created status ("Feeder," "Sinker," "Warzone"). Founders and Delegates can add more tags to their regions via Regional Control. All tags are listed on a "Tag Cloud" with the more popular tags appearing in larger text than the rest, like on many Web sites. The tag cloud has been added to most region search pages.

As of May 2012, the most frequently used tags are "Miniscule" (nearly 8,500 regions) and "Founderless" (over 1,300).
