History
Quezadria was founded in 1949 when it gained it's independance from Great Britain. Immediately it began an era of chaos with 2 military coups in it's first 3 years. In 1952 a military regime was established run by a council of high military leaders, this council pursued a very Islamist agenda, one which the culture flourished, but the economy did not. In 1968 the government was restored to multi-party Civilian rule, but this proved very unstable as the party coalition system led to years of essentially government inactivity. In 1979 Quezadria joined Green Revolution and became a leading voice in the Arab world, despite economic difficulties. With the break-up of Green Revolution in 1992, the economy began a massive downturn until 2003 when the King-in-exile (King line from the Great Britain era) took the country in a coup. He crowned himself King Quezadria III and based his country on Wahabbi law.
People and Culture
Quezadria is an almost entirely Arab society with a small Kurdish population in the Northern region and Southern regions. Religiously almost 100% of the population is Muslim. About 89% are Sunni Muslim (Salafi) with a further 10% being Shia and 1% being a mix of Christianity and Judaism. The spoken language is officially Arabic, though English is used unofficially in some more wealthy areas.
Politics
The Quezadrian political arena is entirely built on the monarchy, with parties being outlawed, though the Ba'ath Arab Socialist Party is active illegally.
Economy
Ever since independance Quezadria has maintained a relatively weak economy because of political turmoil. However, with the nationalization of industry and land reforms, the King hopes to encourage economic growth. Crop production is increasing thanks to massive irrigation projects, with the rise of oil prices, the economy is expected to do better, although Quezadria does not have a substantially large amount of oil, unlike it's southern neighbour, Mengistua.
International Relations
Quezadria has maintained good relations with almost all of the Arab world. Now those relations are shattered thanks to the Quezadrian intervention in the Mengistuan Civil War with Quezadria aiding the Wahabbi government while Karuchea aids the rebels. This has caused a moderate split within the Arab League.
National Anthem and Flag
There is no current national anthem, though one is expected to be written soon. The flag of Quezadria is the traditional Arab Liberation flag of red, white and black going on the top, middle and bottom of the flag respectively. Three green stars are on the left, middle and right of the white centre.
