Pauro Stormbird
The Pauro Stormbird was a single-seat biplane fighter aircraft of the inter-War period, developed by the Allied States of Inutoland and entering service in 1922.
It was designed to meet an IAF Procurement Requirement for a single-seat fighter capable of operating in daytime or night conditions, to be armed with at least two 7.92mm machine guns. Pauro Air Industries, Ramandu Air Company and the new Waris Aircraft Factory all tendered bids for the requirement, and the Pauro design was selected as the most capable. It served as the main frontline fighter aircraft of the Inutoland Air Force from its inservice date of 1922 until 1935.
The Stormbird was quite an advanced design for its time, featuring a fully enclosed cockpit as well as gull-type wing planes and aerodynamic shields over the undercarriage. The 14-cylinder air-cooled radial engine propelled it at speeds up to 270km/h, and it could carry up to four "Lightning" rockets or 9kg bombs as well as its twin machine gun armament. Its agility was impressive, with a tight turning radius and a high rate of climb which matched most early 1930s aircraft. Towards the mid 1930s, however, the Stormbird's comparatively light machine gun armament and slower flight speed meant that it was outmatched by more modern aircraft, and in 1933 the fighter was retired altogether.
"Songbird" Trainer
A two-seat trainer version was produced in 1925, the Songbird, which had an extended, two-seat cockpit with dual controls. The Songbird lacked the hardpoints for attaching bombs or rockets, and most Songbirds also lacked the machine gun armament, though a certain number of Inutolander Songbirds were designated "Weapons Training aircraft" and retained the machine guns.
The Songbird was retained as a trainer aircraft until 1937.
