New York Times Democracy
From NSwiki, the NationStates encyclopedia.
A New York Times Democracy in NationStates is a government type indicating heavy influence by the media over elections, government and public policy in general. It generally means the nation's citizens enjoy moderate levels of personal and economic freedoms, but above-average political freedoms, meaning a reasonably transparent government and political system offering greater opportunities to vote on candidates and issues. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are also strongly protected under such a system.
The name is derived from the RL U.S. newspaper the New York Times, which is widely regarded as a symbol of "mainstream press," but which has been subject to criticism over claims of bias in its news coverage.
