Nethertopia is a peaceful country, located in Rushmore. It's governmental type is constitutional monarchy. The current monarch is King Hendrik I. The royal house has no power whatsoever, because the country is led by a parliament. Current prime minister is Pieter van Delta, who won the last elections with 24% of all votes.
Nethertopia's early history is closely bounded with that of the Netherlands, but gained independence in the year 1784.
The country is more or less known for it's American and association football kit manufacturer T4S and as a minor football country. It's also renowned for Nethertopian table tennis player Andres Garcia, who has won the First World Table Tennis Championship.

[edit] As Dutch colony
Nethertopia started off as an an uninhabited island group, which was found by a Dutch merchant who was on his way to the Dutch colonies in the US, somewhere halfway the 17th century. The ground was fertile and was quickly claimed as Dutch ground. A lot of Dutch immigrants settled on the eastside of the island, forming DePardenti, then the only settlement. When Ratos Island was found , Tenderville was quickly established. But the real start of the country was with the beginning of the settlement called Brianga. Ashdom and Mignon, the other two large cities were established a little time later.

[edit] Fight for Independency
The country started to disagree with the Dutch government in the early 18th century, in the year 1717, about taxes and the upkeep of their costs of the VOC. They declared independence, but it was ignored by the Netherlands. Minor fighting happened between the two countries from 1724 to 1780. The fourth Anglo-Dutch war started in 1780 and Nethertopia was quick to announce to side with Britain. Although never getting involved in battle too much, when England won the war it recognised the nation of Nethertopia. The latter promptly made English as first language and declared themselves free from any monarch. They also made a bird to national animal, the Peregrine Falcon. At this point Brianga was renamed into it's name it's still using, Peregrinus City.
They quickly gained the status of free republic, an open country for any refugee. A lot of Europeans, oppressed, prosecuted or at any other manner not welcome in their country any more fled to Nethertopia. Through this a diverse society developed, but the main population is still Dutch. From 1780 to 1900 was a relatively quiet period, where the Nethertopian society was specialised in merchandising, and agriculture with which they kept themselves alive.

Today the day the country has a liberal attitude towards economical and political freedoms and a good portion of l rights. It holds close relations with neighbour Candelaria And Marquez, but mostly relies on it's own economics to keep the inhabitants satisfied. Recently, a research team has found the last living descendant of the Dutch crown with a Nethertopian Identity, Henkie Ooran, then a owner of a snack bar. He has recently been crowned to king of Nethertopia and is currently undergoing lessons to become familiar with royal behaviour. His function is be ceremonial, though.

When the first Dutch settlers settled on Offtopica Island they found a climate rather colder than in their original country. Whilst still a maritime climate with cool summers and mild winters, it looked much the same, but there's always a difference between the two. Temperatures vary from the slightly warmer Tenderville, till the rather cold Mignon. Tenderville's maximum temperature was measured at 34,2°C, on the 14th of July 1997, which is also the nation's record. The coldest temperature yet has been measured near the top of Mount Anatom, which was -35,3°C on the 15th of January, 1960.

[edit] Rivers
The two largest rivers of the nations are the Ancestor and the Flow. The Flow is the largest one of the two and is an extremely fast river, starting on Mount Anatom. It forms most of the border of the Province of the Ages and the Falcon District. It's also the most dangerous river of Nethertopia, having records of dozens of people who've drowned in it. The Ancestor begins at the end of the Lake of the Elders and ends in sea, several kilometres away from DePardenti. The name origins from the first colonists, who sailed on the river, against the flow, to explore the mainland.

During the start of the 20th century many forests were cut down to make space for the ever growing industry. Deforestation even went so far that at area's around the largest cities only a small part of the trees was left, just in between the line where they weren't possible to grow because of the heights and the many fabrics. It eventually was so bad that a lot of ordinary species on the island were about to die out. The government decided to stop this in the early '50s and created a lot of space for new, artificial forests, which were made. Nature and industry seem to be balanced at this time.
Nethertopia has several national parks, which are specially kept intact by the government. The largest one is where the Ancestor crosses the border of Mignon to the Old Duchy, a part of the forest which is untouched. Other notable parks are the top of Mount Anatom and the small island above Mignon, the only place in Nethertopia where penguins are living in the wild.

The Nethertopian government has recently been transformed to a constitutional monarchy, but it has been a republic since 1784, after becoming independent from the Netherlands. Only rich people were to vote at first, because they were the only ones to even have enough money to vote. This changed slightly after 1848, the year that most European countries saw revolutions to bring more equality to the people. Egidius de Heije made the First Nethertopian Constitution, on which the current Nethertopian constitution is still based. Civil rights were a major point and slavery became officially forbidden. Slavery never was a big issue in Nethertopia, as nobody seemed to use them anyway.

Still, it would take almost another 80 years to get to the point of voting for everybody who's 18 years or older. In 1890 the first social groups were made, demanding the right to vote. After five years of pressure and raising violence, the government was prepared to let men vote. It took another 30 years before women were allowed the same rights as men. In 1925 women's votes were counted and proportional representation was introduced.

The structure of the Nethertopian government is with only one chamber, called the Senate. The Senate is able to change propositions from the cabinet, but can't propose law proposals on it's own. The Senate residences in the Cubilus Senati, Latin for Seating of the Senate. 225 representatives are chosen into the Senate. The Cabinet of Ministers holds the executive power. The cabinet is filled by the parties that take seat in the coalition and are chosen by the parties that form it. The Prime Minister is mostly the first person on the voting list from the party with the most votes, but it can be decided to pick someone else. The cabinet exists of 18 ministers.

Nethertopia hosts five different large parties and several small ones, who never make it into the Senate. The largest party at this moment is the Nethertopian Labour Party (NLP), holding 93 seats. The Prime Minister, Pieter van Delta, is their political leader. They form a coalition with the socially-liberal party United Democrats (UD), who have 42 representatives. The opposition consists of three parties: The right-winged Liberal Free Party (LFP), with 51 seats. The fourth party of the country is even more right-minded, the Nethertopian People's Liberal Party (NPLP), who are currently represented by 28 men. The smallest party is the religious Party of the Church (PotC), with 11 seats.

Nethertopia is a country that has a diverse society, with a majority of from origin Dutch people. Since it has a very open policy in foreigners migrating into the country, it hosts a lot of political and economical refugees. There is also a lot of migrating between Nethertopia and Candelaria And Marquez, mostly due to economical reasons. Other Rushmori countries are also popular with migrating Nethertopians.
The life expectancy of the average Nethertopian is 85 years for females and 84 for males. Nethertopians are rather tall on average, measuring 1.80 average for adult males and 1.69 for adult females. Ratos Island people tend to be longer than people from the mainland.
Religion tends to be ignored by the larger part of society, with only 15% not atheist. The biggest three fractions of religion are Orthodox Christianity, Catholism and Islamism.
No official reports state anything about intelligent species, but on numerous occasions people have stated that they saw Nethertopian brown bears talking to each other somewhere in the Old Duchy, hinting to a group of intelligent ursines there. This is, however, unconfirmed by authorities. Non-Humans are rarely seen, but accepted in society.

Peregrinus Ciy and Tenderville are the nation's largest economical centres, with Tenderville holding the largest harbour, where about 50% of Nethertopian export takes place. Peregrinus city holds the biggest stock market of the country. The nation's biggest companies are united in the Falcon Stock Exchange (FSE). The Golden Sovereign is the name of the currency, and holds close ties to the Silver Sovereign of South Offtopica and the Copper Sovereign of The Nth Eagle Islands. The biggest trading parters are Candelaria And Marquez, South Offtopica and The Nth Eagle Islands.
Nethertopia doesn't have a lot of natural resources, but has built a nice agriculture. The coastal lines are very fertile and are of good use for agriculture, especially daily farming. A large uranium mining factor is taking care of a large part of the nation's energy, but alternative, green energy is on it's way to replace the nuclear energy power plants Nethertopia is using now.
