The Roa ("State") of Nala is the third smallest of the Nine States of Inutoland, and is located in the southeast of the country.

The elected monarch, or Tuyas of Nala is the current High Tuyas of the country, a position that rotates between the Nine States every 12 years. Currently, Tanese Aroca is both Tuyas of Nala and High Tuyas of Inutoland.

Nala was traditionally one of the poorer Roa due to its frequent cyclonic tropical storms and hurricanes. The Nalinese economy was once based around fishing; in modern times shipbuilding and other maritime industry has been added to the mix, and the economy has improved somewhat. The natural harbour of Iruna houses the headquarters of the Inutoland Naval Forces and is the main shipbuilding centre for both military and civilian contractors.

The Nalinese flag depicts a traditionally-decorated solar symbol; the sun god Ilu is the patron god of Nala from ancient times, and his image and iconography is common in the state. Other states' citizens sometimes joke that Tano god of storms ought to be the state's patron deity, given Nala's frequent hurricanes. Nalinese typically do not find this all that funny; many Nalinese have lost family and loved ones to the storms they have weathered over the years.

The frequent storms have left the Nalinese both devout and extremely pragmatic. Nalinese are the least likely to elect government officials from anything other than centrist parties, and tend to be the most willing to change social traditions if there is a need. They are the most egalitarian-minded of the Nine States, and Nala has elected more female government officials and Tuyas than any other state.

Nala is frequently something of a test-bed for Inutolander social law changes, as they tend to be the first to enact legal changes in this area. The state of Nala was the first to legalise homosexuality, and the first to experiment with changes to the laws on euthanasia.
