NSwiki:Vandalism in progress
Please report vandalism at the top of the "Current alerts" list below. Please only use this page for repeated malicious vandalism, not for one-off edits, or newbie tests. Except in cases of vandalbot or other rapid-fire attacks, please warn users and wait for further vandalism before listing them here. Do not list non-vandalism.
Please list the IP address or user name, pages touched and damage done. It helps if you run a WHOIS query to find out where anonymous users are located. Sign your name using ~~~~ after your report. Put the person's IP or username in the edit summary.
Please do not bite the newcomers by listing newbie tests as vandalism. Instead, assume good faith. See NPOV dispute, Accuracy dispute and Requests for comment for content disputes. Page protection may be requested.

Oceania has twice blanked this page just to spam it http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=The_Black_Riders. User:Fosco 21:10, 25 September 2012
- Looking at his contributions, he has blanked a number of pages relating to the Black Hawks and other raider regions. All of these changes have been reverted, and I left a final warning on his talk page. ~~ Bettia ~~ talk 01:34, 26 September 2012 (PDT)
I'm seeing a surge in spam users being created and used to post spam articles (usually either their user page or a Main: namespace page with the same name as the user, or both); said articles don't always contain links (possibly because some of the links are being caught by the external link captcha), but some do.
In all cases, they generally look like - in my opinion - those annoying narratives you'd have to read through and answer questions about in the Reading Comprehension sections of standardized tests - usually about a specific subject (the popular one is LED lightbulbs, but on one occasion I've noted a spam article about soccer jerseys and another one containing random blobs of text probably copypasta'd from web pages).
I've been marking the one's I've seen for speedy deletion (but leaving the article content present until the trend is acknowledged in order to assist sysops with determining their spamminess). Just wanted to keep everyone aware, since this isn't the first place I've seen these kinds of spam messages. YellowApple 01:45, 6 September 2012 (PDT)
- Oh, and some usernames: User:FinkelsteinRigdon483, User:Renexx0r, User:DownesBunce40, User:Radonee0f, User:ShouseStrahan283, and User:Nflmebu8 are all authors of such spam articles. I anticipate there to be more (though the surge was between the night of 3 September and the wee hours of 5 September, so it could have been just a momentary wave of spammers; we'll see). YellowApple 01:54, 6 September 2012 (PDT)
- Thanks for bringing this to our attention. In accordance with NSwiki custom, the offending spambots have been offered to Margaret as a sacrifice. In future, please replace the entire page with the delete template instead of simply adding it to the top. These spambots make a living adding their links to innocent wikis, so we might as well deny them that as far as possible until their work is deleted. ~~ Bettia ~~ talk 03:36, 7 September 2012 (PDT)
- Looking at the deletion log and New Pages log, you'll be please to know the spam is slowing down rather than surging. I've been away from here for over a week, so I would've expected a lot more work! Are the thousands of blocks that we've dished over over the past few years finally starting to have an effect? 03:51, 7 September 2012 (PDT)~~ Bettia ~~ talk
- Awesome. I'll be sure to just simply replace all content with the speedy delete template in the future. And good to see that the surge was only momentary, though I wouldn't be surprised if a flood of new spammers followed. YellowApple 13:47, 7 September 2012 (PDT)

This was rather non-constructive: http://nswiki.net/index.php?title=The_Black_Hawks&oldid=587749 --Seperate Vermont 20:48, 9 March 2012 (PST)
- Indeed; thanks. I've confirmed your warning to that user. Aridd 05:49, 10 March 2012 (PST)
Would someone please lock Template:Infobox Nation immediately, so it does not become completely useless to all the other pages that currently use it? Thanks. --Omigodtheykilledkenny 15:45, 20 November 2011 (PST)
- I've put a temporary block on the infobox and warned the user involved. Permanent protection strikes me as a bit too harsh in this case, as the template could theoretically be improved with new links to NSwiki instead of Wikipedia, etc, as this wiki expands. --Knootoss 06:28, 21 November 2011 (PST)
Vandals have switched tactics. In addition to posting spam new pages with external links, and making user profiles that contain external links, they now edit specific popular pages and replace genuine links with links to their products. Please be on the lookout for suspicious edits in 'recent edits', especially if they are made to popular or old pages. --Knootoss 13:04, 15 November 2011 (PST)
Old Alerts
- Reports made before 2011 have been moved to NSwiki:Vandalism in progress/archive.
No sooner did the protection expire on the NS redirect that it was attacked again. Could that page possibly be protected permanently? --Omigodtheykilledkenny 09:21, 15 November 2011 (PST)
- Nation and Alessedora could be under attack too. --Omigodtheykilledkenny 11:31, 15 November 2011 (PST)
- Done and dealt with --Knootoss 13:01, 15 November 2011 (PST)
I see that User:Heppism, who previously incurred a ban for vandalizing pages, is at it again, and has recently made damaging edits to Iievius and User talk:Iievius. --Omigodtheykilledkenny 17:20, 3 November 2011 (PDT)
- Yeah. That whole clique of aussie teenagers seems to enjoy vandalising. Iievius himself is on a one month ban. I've permabanned Heppism since really, all he did was spam and he's been warned before. I'd suggest just permabanning any of those people if they vandalise again, since they've /all/ had at least one temporary ban now. --Knootoss 17:32, 3 November 2011 (PDT)
User:Ignorante and User:Ignorantes2 appear to be troll-accounts for vandalizing Argentina's page. Please address. Thanks! --Omigodtheykilledkenny 11:37, 2 November 2011 (PDT)
- -- Users banned and page protected for a day. --Knootoss 11:54, 2 November 2011 (PDT)
There are a number of spam links that I've seen over the past few days. I've added the speedy deletion tag to the ones that I could find. There seems to be a bot or something registering usernames and making these spam articles, they are appearing regularly every day. If I see anymore, I will continue to add the speedy delete tag to them. (ITD 08:01, 30 June 2011 (UTC))
- Sigh... and those silly spambits had been so quiet recently. Anyway, they're all gone now. Many thanks for your help - spam pages are speedy deleted, so please continue to use the "delete" template rather than the "inclusion" template. —BETTIA— talk 13:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm very sorry about all the failed edits I tried to make to correct this, but:
- The Democratic People's Republic of Defero Populus needs to be redirected to Defero Populus
- Defero Populus, now a redirect page, needs to be deleted to make way for redirect
- this page needs to be deleted.
- User:Lgnsp needs to be blocked from editing on NSwiki.
- --Omigodtheykilledkenny 04:03, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sorted (I think). I don't think there was a way to do it without losing the edit history though. Sorry. —BETTIA— talk 14:41, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, lgnsp is still making troll-edits to DP's page. Shouldn't he be blocked? --Omigodtheykilledkenny 21:25, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sorted (I think). I don't think there was a way to do it without losing the edit history though. Sorry. —BETTIA— talk 14:41, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- I am happy to report that there are currently no active vandalism alerts, although we do have a spammer who registers on average 10 accounts a day. Compared to what we had before, it is tranquillity itself! However, it is important that NSwikians remain alert and report any vandalism here. --Knootoss 13:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- The unregistered French/Italian pornography spammers are back. -.-. Please keep an eye on recent edits by unregistered users. I guess we're in for a long haul of mass-deletions again. I really really wish Goober would finally respond and deny unregistered users editing permission. :( Knootoss 19:29, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- Or just add a filter to confirm that the edits are being made by actual human beings. --Omigodtheykilledkenny 21:11, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Unregistered IP has been recorded vandalizing a page more than once. And it is not a spambot: here

Is anyone in contact with Goobergunch about this? I'd be happy to share with him what I've done to keep the spam levels from extremely low to nonexistent (at most two or three spam edits a day, most days none or one) on WikiStates, but they all require server-level configuration changes that only Goobergunch would be able to make. It's a pity, really. Unless proactive measures are made to stop it from appearing, trying to clean it up after the fact will only become more and more infeasible as the volume increases. Bluth Corporation 22:50, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think Paci's tried a few times but has had no luck whatsoever. For a while, we've been saying this wiki either needs some sort of captcha system or restrict editing to logged in users only, but as you rightly said, only Goober can implement these. —BETTIA— talk 15:58, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

I think we need to prune those new pages spawned by spambots, such as The Eastern Islands of Dharma, Klam Lephla-Jell (I can get those medicines cheap, thank you), Heraldry of the United Roman Empire, Terra Lux, Supreme Archmage Aramil Holimion, Taino, Asgarnian Naval Force, Blotto, Kampoj, and Callidian. Note how the name pages seemed appropriate and acceptable for NSWiki, well, if that means something... Also it's so useless attaching deletion tags on them because the spambots re-spam it and delete the tags almost immediately afterwards! (See Callidian as a prime example)
Also, is there anything we can do about anonymous users? Perhaps we should require everyone to log in before editing anything. It's kinda frustrating when I revert a page, and then the next minute it gets spammed again... :( Kyle 10:24, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, I think it's time we require log-ins to prevent spamming. Nordrige 10:40, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Also, please add to my suggestions of pages to be deleted: Asgarnian Army, Miskinian, Preen, New Cyberian Territory, New Pompea International Airport, Talk:Karpori. Kill those pages now. Those are your spamporn pages for March 2-3, 2011. No wonder the world is running out of IP addresses. Kill also Bluer, New Krocsport, Henry X, Chris Zhakharv, Potosi Mine, Postalveolar consonant, New Town, Kazlova, Aurelia, Wombat News, Asteroid B 612, Managed to lose my planner pencil case and timetable today 19 (and so, why would I care, st~pid?), and E pra hosting dedicated mesmo não pra registro de domínio 14, These are simply pages with legit-sounding names created by spambots. All it contains are linkspam and viewing the history shows it was made and (re-)spammed by spambots. Also, User:Nazi German Powers Media defaced Alsted. Please include in banlist. Thank you. -- Kyle 10:09, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- As you can see, I've made a start on these spam pages, but time has run out and I'll have to finish them off tomorrow. Mind you, if some of the other admins could help clear this load, that'd be great. —BETTIA— talk 16:04, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps we could restrict editing of Pacitalia to registered users only (page protection), it's a shame when a featured article gets linkspammed everyday. Also I'd like to request the deletion of the spambot-spawned aticles listed here. Thank you! Kyle 10:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
It seems that particular spammer has left. I'm rather glad for that. Knootoss 08:44, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

datLinkSpam. There was one more but I edited the linkspam out. These ones, there is no other content, so I think that might be an admin jobbie. Osarius 11:22, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=Order_of_the_Pantocrator&action=history <-- Multiple IP users have been vandalizing this article, and it needs to be reverted to it's productive former revision, and as usual the immature spambots bannhammer'd.
The same goes for this:

Hi. Our great guide to NSwiki:Page editing was also being linkspammed by 210.74.191.72, 61.244.235.34 and 187.6.254.42 for three consecutive days for now. I propose that it be protected. Thanks! -- Kyle 14:25, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Hope you guys aren't all away for the holidays, because Talk:Vastiva dearly needs to be protected, and the user IP 76.76.103.98 immediately and indefinitely blocked. Thanks in advance. --Omigodtheykilledkenny 17:29, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I was away - did you miss me? Those two pages have been sorted out now and the offending IPs blocked. Surely I'm not the only active admin here? Maybe we need an extra pair of hands in case this happens again. Any volunteers? Bettia (talk) 11:21, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
