This is a list of current heads of state and government in NationStates. Nations will often have a separate head of state and head of government, especially in parliamentary systems, where a premier or prime minister will manage day-to-day governmental operations while a monarch, president or other leader assumes a more ceremonial role as national figurehead. The role of head of state differs from nation to nation, however, and in some systems, particularly the presidential or dictatorial type, the head of state and the head of government are the same official. Some countries may have a semi-presidential system, where a separate head of government is elected or appointed, but the head of state shares some governmental responsibilities.
