The Leninist Dynasty is a superstate that arose as a nation only recently, as a consolidation of the various semi-independent nations of the region of the same name. The region itself had been in existence since the Sino-Russian Unification. While those with an understanding of marxism may view the name "Leninist Dynasty" as a contradiction in itself, one needs to understand the historical circumstances from which it arose (See the History section). The LD is a totalitarian socialist superstate that since the Central European Campaign spans most of the Eurasian landmass (with some notable exceptions and several territories in which actual political control has never been clarified). It borders the Islamic Union to the south, but is seperated by the Atlantic ocean from its main adversary, Vault 10.

In the aftermath of World War III, Russia occupied all of continental Europe, which it had freed from occupation by The Reich. Territories taken from Ottoman Empire were also incorporated into the country's territory, namely Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, in Afghanistan, the LD was facing massive resistance from islamic fanatics, backed by the Islamic Union of Arabia and the United Continents of America. Also, the russian forces could not advance into other territories formerly held by the Ottoman Empire, because they had already fallen into the hands of the emerging Islamic Union. Japan had jointly been occupied by american and russian forces, thus, the country was jointly governed. Neither of the two powers exercised full control over the country, and it developed rather independantly.

While the Dynasty is a superpower for its own time, one should not be mistaken about extent of dynastian power - having arisen from a devastated world, it is actually only a faint afterglow of the great cultures that preceeded it. It would propably be unable to stand against the Great Powers of the 19th and 20th century, the vibrant reach upward that characterized the now collapsed Western Civilization. But, at least it covers the land with some security and infrastructure.

Its political totalitarianism, along with its rather specializing stand on marxist theory, has made the LD a difficult partner to align with - while already hostile to most powers on its planet, the LD is known to have had a short-lived alliance with the UCSSR and USSR regions before it perished as a region. However, the LD is always willing to support - and take support from - other socialist or communist nations, and also to give 3rd world regimes development aid, if they request such, however tied to political concessions.

The Leninist Dynasty maintains a large (but somewhat underequipped) army that mainly consists of reluctantly conscripted infantry recruited in the siberian farmlands and in subjugated territories; and heavy tanks, with little investment made in airforce or navy. While vast in number, the bad infrastructure World War III has left the world with has made the army very decentralized. Local detachments often do not compare to the more metropolitan divisions, in both equipment and training. Even the more important units lack the necessary industrial backbone to equip themselves with modern weaponry, so the basic infantry are mainly equipped with out-dated Mosin-Nagants, with automatic weapons predominant only in the upper ranks and with distinguished military units - PPSh-41 and the AK series are the predominantly used infantry weapons in these units.

History

It seems to be that up into the early 21st century, Russia was very much like the current real-life version of the country.

A discrepancy to resolve when recording the history of the Dynasty is the obvious contradiction of explaining the vast military exploits of Russia in the wake of World War III - the occupation of Europe, half of Japan, the european part of Turkey, India and China - in the light of the war being followed immedeately by the Bunker Age - a time period where mankind was overall on the retreat due to environmental factors caused by excessive use of nuclear weapons during the war and hardly a time where military expansion and infrastructure would be sustainable. The surface world in that time was home only to the mechanoids that had been created to terraform earth back to its pre-war state - which they completed quite succesfully, making it the somewhat hospitable fantasy world of Random Kingdom III.

Part of this problem is also when actually the Second Revolution (turning Russia into the beginning of the Dynasty) actually takes place. New World Order would place it before the acctual war with The Reich, going as far as making Novaya Rossiya (the Leninist Dynasty) the agressor and even equating it with The Reich, while making Europe similar to current Europe, suffering a russian invasion. This position has been partially taken into Consolidation. However, these are retcons. Original timing of the Second Revolution could have been:

Perhaps this contradiction can be consolidated however. New World Order tells the story of Red Alert 2 with a slight alteration; instead of Alexander Romanov (perhaps under Yuri's influence) plotting against the west, the Russian government is shown to actually be collaborationist with the western powers, ruling over an impoverished nation very similar to post-soviet Russia since the 1990's, still drawing on soviet symbolism, but really being an empty autocracy. The events of Renegade 2 followed Red Alert 2, before the former was cut from canon; the Scavengers making a living in the squalid conditions in Russia after the country lost the war detailed in Red Alert 2. However, the Scavengers can just as well be tied in at an earlier point - the era of the collaborationist government. Now if the 'western powers' the government was collaborating with was really the The Reich - or at the very least, only offering weak resistance, gradually loosing ground - it's possible to tie the revolution. However, the Russian occupation of european territories remains unexplained, and timing the revolution after the Bunker Age, as a reunification movement of survivor colonies, seems just as fitting. The Scavengers, more fittingly, would then be the survivors - or one of the survivor groups - making a living in post-nuclear Russia.

World War III

The nation of Russia was one of the opponents to The Reich during World War III. After the Reich's invasion of Russia and the invasion force's defeat west of Moscow through the use of a Nuclear device, nuclear weapons were used without restraint by all powers opposed to The Reich. The Russians made quick territorial gains towards central Europe now. In the end, the underground fortress in what is today the Northern Capital was besieged for six years by the Russians and an invasion force of their American allies, before the Reich was finally defeated.

However, the lasting effects the unrestricted nuclear warfare had had on the world could not be reversed. The nuclear warfare unleashed against the Reich had already forced it to respond by relocating its industry and much of the population of Europe underground into subterranean fortress-cities and an interlinked network of bunkers. The effects of nuclear warfare also affected the rest of the world.

The American population retreated to the Vaults. It is not known what became of the American forces in Europe during that time: they might have returned to their home country, died because of a shortage of food and protection in absence of a Vault of their own, or absorbed into the local population (maybe by occupying parts of the remains of the Berlin Bunker, leading to a divided city like in RL). Apparently, a small population descended from American soldiers was present in northern France by the time of Random Kingdom III.

In Russia, precursions taken for the population were not as advanced nor extensive. Part of the population survived in the subways of Moscow, while there were also isolated communities in Siberia unaffected by the war. The history of the Leninist Dynasty proper starts with the russian survivors of the world war.

The Metropolitan Survivors

Main article: Metro 2033

During the Bunker Era, a handful of people survived in the Eastern Capital (then Moscow), while the surface city was looted down and ruined by the Darkens tribe of Abomination Mutants. It were these survivors from which most of the western Russian population are descended. Since Neo-World, it is commonly thought that the urban population, from which much of the administrative class of Russia recruited itself, descended from reduced survivors of the inhabitants of Moscow, who lived in the city's subway tunnels throughout the Bunker Era. By 2033, these survivors first left the underground dwellings and returned to the surface city, which was by then in ruins and inhabited by the Darkens. The survivors successfuly reclaimed the city against the mutant horde. The inhabitants of the area around Moscow, propably even between Karelia in the north, the Dnjepr in the south, the Vistulla in the west and the Urals in the east, were all decimated (or mutated) during the Bunker era, except for these survivors. The people of western Russia after the Bunker Era - except for isolated migrats - hence all descended from this narrow population.

Scavengers

The Urals

Besides the survivors in Moscow, there were communities in Siberia which had survived the nuclear holocaust by sake of being remote from the population centers in western Russia, and thus never a direct target. These survivors were descendants of the (largely nomadic) indigenous peoples of Siberia, such as Tartars or Siberian inuit, who had been in place long before the Russian colonization of the area, but also settled communities of slavic peasant stock, mainly in the temperate forests in northern Kazakhstan, and north of the kazakhstani border. When the nuclear winter gave way to the nuclear summer, and global warming accelerated, the once frozen taiga further north became increasingly suited for agriculture - especially the well-irrigated area between Ob and Yenisei allowed the local population to grow.

Cyberian War

Main article(s): Cyberian war

The territories east of the Ural mountains were at that time in the hands of the last remaining Autofac state, Cyberia. The mechanoids could thrive here, were the conditions were harsh and human settlement was sparse. Human population in the area had been exterminated by the machines. However, with global warming, the area was becoming increasingly attractive for settlement, as the taiga gave way to fertile land in the basin of the Ob and Yenisei rivers. Russian forces moved eastwards to do battle with the Cyberians and finally occupied the territory from the Urals to the Amur river.

Europe

Main article: Icebreaker

After rule within the territories of Russia was secured, the Russians proceeded with the preparations for an invasion of the rest of Europe, west of the Vistulla. These were former lands of The Reich, which were directly nuked during the Great War. They were largely a devastated, irradiated, uninhabitable wilderness. What few survivors there had been, protected by the Vaults, had recently left their underground hideouts (after the heroic deeds of Cinimod Ttam) to find their homelands laid waste, inhabited by wild animals, Gengas, Mutants and other dangerous wildlife that the Great War had produced. The metropolises from the Algarve to Masuria were in ruins, and uninhabited. Some isolated villages were scattered throughout Europe, inhabited by a resilient stock of people that were used to wrestle their meals from the fangs of a Dra. An example of such a contemporary settlement can be seen in the shell-houses of Amalgosa (the cannon-city of Beaumont is more monumental and dates to The Reich). However, they were little in number, and easily fell to the Russian invasion.

Following the Bunker Era, the Russians began their expansion beyond the New German Republic which they had occupied earlier. The former territories of The Reich were almost devoid of population: some wasteland wanderers lived as nomads, other communities were just settling on the surface again after leaving their underground shelters. The Russians met little resistance from the reduced survivors. Although there was significant mutated wildlife present in the area, the Mutants had little to match armament and vehicles of the Red Army. The invaders, in rapid succession, gobbled up the reduced states of Twizzed (the founder nation of their former ally, Shumway Country), Schultler, Shio Iznagi and the pastures of the nomadic Pornols.

Winter War

The first nation to fall to the Russians was Finland. Scandinavia was least affected by the war, but also not densely populated. Sergeant Sergey Molotov distinguished himself in this conflict.

Indian Campaign

The conquest of India was also considered a 'test run' for a possible future war with China, as both countries shared the characteristic of a large population and high population density (for China at least in the east). In order to cope with the feared mass armies the Indians could field because of their much larger draft base the Russians could numerically not keep up with, a new robotic weapon was developed and used with great success: Scavenger Droids, an assortment of various robots formed by nanites. Forming a whole ecological system of their own, a SD colony could quickly descend upon an area and devour soft and hard targets alike, devoiding the enemy of both population and materiel.

Sino-Russian Unification

The actions of New Russia after the successful conquest of Europe and India were less met with success than before. The Russians did not dare to engage Post-WW3 China, but finally united with the nation on peaceful terms to form the Leninist Dynasty.

Arabian Campaign

The Leninist Dynasty engaged in two wars with the Islamic Union of Arabia, referred to as the First and Second Arab-Russian War, both of which ended without territorial gain for either side. During the First war, an Arab force invaded Transoxiana, beating a chinese army near the Syr Darya. This invasion force was then beaten back by a russian intervention from the north, cutting its over-extended supply chain. The second of these wars was a Dynastian invasion of Afghanistan and Parthia in a swift move to secure access to the Indian Ocean. This invasion, too, was beaten back by the residents by an extended guerilla warfare and operations deep in the dynastian homeland.

New Cold war

Main article: Cybernetic arms race

The so-called Cybernetic Arms Race refers to the ongoing attempts of the Leninist Dynasty and the United Continents of America to outclass each other in the development of new types of combat Cyborgs.

Recent Events

Due to the Dynasty's communist ideology, it opposes all forms of religion inside its borders, and has also occupied the Vatican as part of its pan-eurasian territory. This has led to several conflicts with radically religious nations, regions and alliances (allways, these opponents have been the attacker), but most of the time, these conflicts were limited to acts of terrorism and guerilla warfare of religious groups inside the Dynasty's borders. Major or ongoing conflicts incited by religious matters were the first and second Arab-Russian War and the ongoing terrorist activity of SchwarzKreuz.

Metahistory

Leninist Dynasty
Forum: none
Population: 5 nations

Founder: Post-WW3 Russia
Info: NSEconomy RC XML

The Leninist Dynasty was a left-wing region that was founded in the aftermath of World War 3 and the Bunker Era. Leninist Dynasty was allied with UCSSR, Shumway Country, Final Fantasy Plains and Command and Conquer Reborn. Although the LD region tended to be modern, or even past tech in many aspects (swords and Zeppelins were used widely across the region), there were notable future tech aspects, as the use of highly developed robotics, cybernetics and particle weapons in the Dynasty's military force, the Dynastian Red Army, and this multiteching remains today in the unified territory of the nation Leninist Dynasty.

Dissolution of the Region

The LD region was dissolved in 2007 (except for a placeholder nation) and merged into USSR. In alliance with UCSSR and The Revolutionary Council, which is currently in diplomatic talks with The Shin Ra Corp, an ally of Post-WW3 Japan, a powerful alliance in support of the USSR should emerge.

As a Nation

The Leninist Dynasty died as a region at some point in 2007. It re-emerged as a consolidated superstate in 2008, reflecting an overall trend of regions turning into single political organizations (seen, for example, in the transformation of the Greater Cyberian Union into New Cyberia and the New Cyberian Territories) as a result of the dropping nation numbers after the announcement of NationStates 2 in 2008.

Politics and government

Main article(s): Leninist Dynastian political system

The LD is a socialist military dictatorship that has several distinct central political convictions:

Political organization

The Dynasty is organized according to the following hierarchy:

Russian

Foreign Relations

Before its expansion westwards of its German puppet state, the New German Democratic Republic, the LD had different relations with the few organized powers in western Europe:

Religion

Any type of religion is banned in LD.

Economy

According to the Jan 09 Factbook Revision, global warming caused the siberian taiga, formerly a barren field of ice and snow, to thaw and thus turned it into a fertile land suitable for agriculture much in the same way as central Europe is today. This gave the Russians considerable capacity for grain production along the Ob and Yenisei, outside of the former main food-producing areas in Ukraine. As a result, many farmers settled in Siberia, and population there grew to a relatively high size.

It appears that the entire heavy industry of the LD is controlled by the state (as would be appropriate for a socialist nation), with a large industry complex being located in the Ukraine, for example. Still, many small shops are run by private enterpreneurs. Also, the Academies seem to be run by private masters, albeit under strict government regulation. The Sky Bay casino in Eastern Capital is even operated privately (though later ordered by High Commander Martinovich to be destroyed because of its decadence and stray from socialist principles).

In Neo-World, all business in the LD are state-operated and payment is made through ration vouchers, rather than money.

The Leninist Dynasty controls a majority of what remains of the world's population after World War III. Vast amounts of grain are produced predominantly in the Ukraine and the vast agricultural lands of Siberia that formed when permafrost was tawed by global warming, opening up a vast territory for grain production.

Culture

Architecture

Sino-Russian Architecture

Sino-Russian Architecture refers to a distinct style of architecture that can be found in southeastern Russia, Kazakhstan, Xinjiang and Mongolia (the "friction areas" of Sino-Russian contact). It is a combination of pre-existing sinic and russian architectural styles that came to replace the Islamic building style of the Turkic peoples and came to be implemented for Mongolian building styles (a country where to previous distinct architecture was present, due to the nomadic nature of its inhabitants). A more accurate reference would thus be "Sino-Russian-Turkic-Mongol Architecture".

Typical of Sino-Russian architecture:

Russo-Indian Architecture

The invasion of India and the subsequent influence of Dynastian social principles left a lasting mark on Indian architecture. Typical of Russo-Indian style are:

Education

No definite statement exists concerning education in the nation. Perhaps the educational system is not unified across the vast expanse of the superstate. Practicers of provincial crafts and trades may teach their children in the traditional way, while in other regions, schools exist. It is known that there are universities within Russia itself, as well as academies in China. Especially in Central and Western Europe, the nuclear war propably meant the end of any organized educational system, and so, children simply learn their parent's trade, or nothing at all. The only system that seems to exist across the entire state is the system of Dojos, military academies which people of all ages, trades and classes can sign up for, and after having been tested for suitedness, are taken to receive a military training that makes them worthy of serving in the LD's vast reserve of one-man armies, irregular combatants, mercenaries, privateers, and other non-regular military units. While only two Dojos are in fact known (Red Star in Northern Capital, and the nameless Dojo of Patrick Angel), it seems to be a system installed universally across the Dynasty. The Dojo system has been taken over from the Yamato Empire during or after World War III. It mainly consists of schools subject to a single master of martial arts, assissted by various auxiliary instructors that are responsible for overseeing the training of the masses of candidates, but also specialize in fighting skills the master may not be familiar with - such as fighting with cybernetic implants, advanced strategy, etc. Each Dojo also employs various other personnell. Usually, those who rank highly in a Dojo, or graduate from it, are used by the Red Army as Rambo-like commandos, who use brute force to bring down special enemy targets, or sometimes whole armies. Dojos are ranked by a system of combat tournaments to which anyone can enter him- or herself. The Dojos will send in fighters of their own, and their fighters are usually expected to win the tournament. The higher the ranking a Dojo's fighter achieves in the tournament the higher the rank of the Dojo.

Apart from that, regular conscription exists and - apparently with the exception of rebellious populations - youth of all sorts is drafted into the army, receiving military training. Other than that, there is no education. However, the military education, depending upon one's potential, is quite advanced, as the military will also employ scientists and engineers. Due to the nature of the LD, all universities are actually part of the military.

Military

Main article: Dynastian Red Army

The military of the LD, numbering possibly several million enlisted men and women, consists of conscripts, which appear to be drafted for an extended period of their life, relying on the local civilian population for supplies. Conscripts can voluntarily continue service after their time as a draftee is over, and proceed through the ranks. Apart from the armed forces, many inhabitants of LD territories have chosen to arm or augment themselves in various ways to protect themselves of wandering thugs, mutant hordes or dangerous wildlife, becoming formidable fighters in their own right. It is not known wether regular recruits are drafted only from the population of the federation, union or pact states, or wether they are drafted from all subject populations - there appear to be a large number of non-drafted youth in the area that used to be The Reich. However, these observations have chiefly been made in German Rebels and in the Northern Capital's Dojo, both locations were one would expect non-draftees. It is known that the LD recruits its potential supersoldiers from all territories, and also from the other superstates - Prince Alexander is from the Islamic Union, yet is being trained in the Northern Capital, as is Ole, despite being from rebel territory (it should be noted that both cases, however, present special cases: Alexander was accepted into the Dojo as part of the peace agreement between the LD and Islamic Union following the Second Arab-Russian War, and Ole was taken into the academy by because the Grand Master in reality plotted with the rebels - at least in Neo-World).

Although the general population is, as mentioned, quite capable of self-defence, it is propably to busy surviving to fight for the socialist dream of the state.

Conscripts are noted for their rather reluctant behaviour when facing an opponent that might overpower them. Instead of being a dangerous military force, the common conscripts' role range from comic relief to cannon fodder.

The true force of the nation's military - apart from its great industrial output of various military hardware - lies in the mentioned supersoldiers. These are fighters that are either forcefully abducted as children (as in the case of Asumi), when showing to be potential candidates, or enroll in the state-controlled fighting schools of the superstate after scoring highly in the entry exams. They there undergo hard training and possibly various augmentations. Also, adults with exceptional powers can apply for membership, either voluntarily (as General Benjamin McEek), and also possibly as mercenaries. The Dynasty also has, or had, an eugenic programm running to create supersoldiers, the prime example being High Commander Martinovich aka "Last Division".
