Lavinium is a moderate-sized region in the NS multiverse. Standing at a permanent population between 50 and 60 nations, Lavinium has a rich history and heritage. With a wide and diverse variety of nations, Lavinium presents itself as a bridge between East and West. Multiple societies representing a broad spectrum of different religions, ethnicities, and political systems have called Lavinium home. This great diversity, and respect for difference, is considered by many to be one of Lavinium's enduring strengths. It has also, however, been the source of turmoil and conflict.

Geography
Lavinium holds a sweeping variety of landscapes, ranging from arctic and subartic climates in places such as the Valadian Empire and Greenland, to steppeland in the Commonwealth and tropical environments in places such as Tehuacan.
There are 7 major continents in the region: Alkebulan, Meridies, Horseshoe, Miclovech, Ceolaan, Catai and the Imperial Continent (not to be confused with any extant empire in the region). There are also several sizeable islands and archipelagos, such as Yanka Isle, the Turumbay Araldary, the Isla Hermosa, the E'lym Islands in Telidia, Zamunda Bariyan Isle and Bundazi Slatnik Isle. Much of the region, particularly on Alkebulan and Catai, is undeveloped and under Senate protection.
Lavinium is bordered on the west by the Western Atlantic, and to the south by Antarctic Oasis.
Regional Politics
Politics in Lavinium is defined by the complex and often conflicting interaction of power blocs and between individual states. There are multiple alliances and associations between Lavinian nations, which play a major role in shaping the region's interactions.
The Imperial Alliance is a power bloc formed to advance the interest of states that, as the name implies, are imperial in nature or have a more imperialistic orientation to their foreign affairs. The members of the Imperial Alliance are the Valadian Empire, Mawaii, La Plata and the Cadish Provinces.
The Lavinium Treaty Organization (LTO) is another power bloc, which was formed primarily to serve as a bulwark to protect its members from aggression by the Imperial Alliance. The LTO also works to promote the values of sovereignty, independence, liberty and international cooperation. The members of the LTO are the Commonwealth of Independent Nations, Alohria, Arx and Tibet.
The Oriental League of Lavinium (OLL) is a political grouping that was formed primarily to advance the culture and interests of Eastern states in the region. The members of the OLL are Azaristan, Palaam and the Commonwealth of Independent Nations.
The Hispanidad is a political, economic and cultural association of Hispanic nations in the region. It exists to provide a common union between such nations, and to promote the culture and interests of the Hispanic nations of the region. The members of the Hispanidad are Santosa, the Federation of Zapatistic States, La Plata and Tehuacan.
In terms of power groupings in the region, the LTO (and to a lesser extent the OLL) stand in polarization to the Imperial Alliance. The Hispanidad follows a neutral course, trying to steer itself between the two great power blocs of the region.
Not all nations participate in these groupings, or align themselves with either side; for example, Greenland holds observer status in the LTO but has not currently taken a stance in opposition to the Imperial Alliance. Tehuacan, despite its Hispanidad membership, is another example, having declared itself to be a completely neutral and demilitarized state.
Regional Government
The regional government of Lavinium exists under the auspices of the Lavinium Senate, the main venue by which the region's states agree to enact regional policy and engage in discussions to resolve issues.
The Senate, though technically only having the authority to encourage cooperation and facilitate diplomacy, has emerged as an entity more resembling a legislative and plenary body. The Senate has achieved such a status through the enacting of Regional Declarations (RDs) which serve as a "canon of regional law."
The Senate has also created a "military," in the form of Senate peacekeeping forces under the command of a Senate-appointed commander, and through the SHIELD counter-terrorism initiative. A set of regional courts have also been created, known as the Lavinium Court System, to which regional states can be brought to trial.
The Senate also maintains its own sovereign territory known as Senate Island, which functions as an independent state in its own right.
The status of the Senate, and the extent to which its power is exerted on the region, is the subject of frequent and ongoing debate between advocates of it retaining the diplomatic and consensus-based form of its early years, and advocates of a more robust regional government.
The composition of the current regional government is as follows:
- Founder: King Valik, Telidia
- WA Delegate: Sophie Fournier, The Commonwealth of Independent Nations
- Senate General Secretary: Mr. Enselv, Greenland
- Commander of the Senate Armed Forces: General Alano Madeira, Santosa
- Justice of the Inferior Court: Ronaldo Casillas, Santosa
Foreign Relations
In terms of its relationships with other regions, Lavinium has maintained a mostly neutral course. The region does, however, enjoy close relations with Antarctic Oasis, the Pleiades, Monkey Island and Zhaucauozian Friendship, among other regions.
Lavinium participates in the World Assembly through its regional Delegate, though the activity and stance of the Delegate often depends on who is serving in the post, the mood of the region towards a given resolution at vote, and the mood of the region and its Delegate towards the Assembly in general. The region does tend to align more with the national sovereignty bloc of the WA, while maintaining that there is a place for international cooperation and WA intervention when warranted and dealing with matters of international significance. Lavinium has also been closely associated with the UN Old Guard.
