Nation Description

The United Communist States of Kulverint & Associated Territories (Der Verenigen Kommunist Unafredan@ Staat de la Kulverint et Assozierten Omaradt) is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Friansza Wilhelm Milverki with an iron fist. Its cynical population of 3.45 billion are ruled by the mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Derastüun. The average income tax rate is 100%, and private enterprise is illegal.

Recruitment posters proclaim the army to be both fabulous and fashionable, mining safety laws are often more expensive than what's being mined, all artwork is carefully screened for offensive material, and speaking out against the government is punishable by flogging. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kulverint's national animal is the Orca, its national religion is Atheism, and its currency is the Kulverintian Pound.

On 15/12/2009, Kulverint accepted a request from Alitaria to share protective duties of the Thousand Islands. This became known in Kulverint as "Drachmana Uilia Mouanta". ("The Union of Protection") Kulverint organised an exchange with Alitarian scientists, hoping to build a "Drachmana Explosza" a "Super Bomb", which would put Kulverint in a firm & powerful position. To the knowledge of anyone involved in the union, this is the first such treaty to have ever existed. (A nation outside region X protecting region X as region X has only very small nations.)

History

Kulverint was founded in 1280, by a group of radical peoples from across the ocean, who had tried and failed to rid their European nation of it's vile aristocracy. They had left, but as far as they knew, there was nothing across this vast ocean. After 8 months of sailing, they finally spotted land. The landed at a beautiful bay, and called it Eratun, their word for beauty. This is the modern day location of Kulverint's capital, Derastüun, and so is one of the world's oldest cities. This group of settlers, numbering a mere 500 came to a land where there were no people. They began expanding their empire all along the coast, until they reached a peninsula. Gradually, as word spread back to Europe that there was indeed land, other nations began forming, but Kulverint was the most northern of these. It's northern neighbour Swartaz was found by Inuits who had strayed far south and taken the land. At this point, around 1309, modern day Kulverint can almost be seen in maps, although stopping at the vast mountain range, and extending much further north, almost to modern day Storvansten. When, finally, in 1812 the mountains were crossed, there was nothing but luscious green fields extending for miles. The small town of Oulo was founded by the first few people to cross the mountain range, and then only because they couldn't be bothered returning. So it was very easy for a small disagreement to lead to a new nation, Vyknov, who ever since had tense relations with Kulverint, until being invaded in 2021. Despite being a hunge mountain range, there are only 4 volcanoes, 2 of which are large calderas. They are: Vallaja Caldera, Ümpüra, Mount Æklenbürg & Mount Jublia.

Kulverint had been a republic for many years when, in 1951, Markus Hellsvinka declared himself dictator. This was followed, in 1959, by both the Kulverint-Swartaz War and the communist takeover. Since then, there have only been 6 presidents, all of the for the Communist Party. They are:

Economy

The Kulverintian economy is not particularly strong at the moment, but material gains from territories such as Zwartania and Schkottland have kept it afloat. The exchange rate is currently Ѭ1.00 = $0.66

Driving

Kulverint, unlike most nations, (including neighbours Swartaz) drives on the left hand side of the road. This does cause some promblens at the border crossing in Transversa.

Military

The military is, one might say, the pride and joy of Kulverint. The Air Force, Navy and Army all play their part in the Kulverintian armed forces. Kulverint is also a member of Communist International.

Derastüun

Kulverint's capital city is, of course, very heavily defended. This is both to keep the population under control, and to keep from the threat of invasion

Transversa

The special status city, holding two nations, with Kulverint's border with Swartaz bounded by a wall to keep the population in.

Mountains

The mountains are dangerous places to fight, and troops are regularly being deployed against Kulverintian capitalist terror groups, conditions are harsh here.

Kulverint's air force is the mainstay of any invasion fleet, often being the first to arrive at any nation. The bombers and fighters are separated into different divisions, led by separate commanders.

The ground troops of Kulverint are normally carried in either planes or boats, but are a completely separate section of the military.

Kulverint takes pride in its navy. The navy is regarded in Kulverint as the mainstay of the military. 1/3 of all planes take off from aircraft carriers, and around 5/6 of all ground troops are taken by ship.

Special Forces

The KVP acts as both the special forces of Kulverint and its secret police. KVP agents are expected to have extremely good abilities in all areas of combat and evasion. Many are stationed for years as spies in other countries, and they are feared worldwide for their unbeatable mix of brutality, efficiency and lack of mercy.

Alliances

Kulverint are members of COMINTERN and the Vladivostok alliance, but not the WA.

Nuclear Weapons

Kulverint's military almost revolves around it's nuclear arsenal, having helped it defeat such nations as Peninsula of Kulverint and holding the trigger over Zwartania. Nuclear weapons are often tested on the island of Ælana.

Glorious War of Communist Independence	In 1951, then elected president Markus Hellsvinka saw an opportunity, and with enough public popularity declared Kulverint a dictatorship under his name. Peninsula of Kulverint War	In 1999, rebels in the south eastern Peninsula de la Drüdermai (Often known as Peninsula of Kulverint) broke off to form their own centre-right government. They were tolerated until an assassination was completed on Kanroula Usiszsta by the rebels, and new president Friansza Milverki swiftly had them destroyed, in a mass attack of vengeance involving Nuclear Weapons.	17,521,248	Friansza Milverki Janna Hellsvinka
Zwartanian Invasion	After then king Pierre du Parre had rid the nation of its monarchy and decided to go it alone, the Kulverintian forces were mobilised, ready for the glorious taking of a new province. Vyknovian War	Vyknov, a state which had separated from Kulverint amid the confusion surrounding the 1812 war, had been a nuisance which Kulverint had struggled to deal with for many a year. When they attempted to capture Oulo, Kulverint needed no further invitation for invasion and swiftly took it along with Swartaz. Glorious War of Veangeance	1280, and Danaidh Milferkai is sent off along with 200 other convicts into the sea heading for certain death, exiled from Schkottland by the leaders they had tried to overthrow. 2024, and Friansza Milverki's son, also called Friansza, is planning something. Kulverintian troops first take back Die Öst-Männer from rebels, before heading off on a daring mission, crossing the North Pole to attack Schkottland from the north and win back their homeland, but at a heavy price.	178,421	Friansza M. Politics

Kulverint is a communist dictatorship, however, this dictator must be elected in by the 5,000 councillors for different regions across the nation. Any one of these councillors may also initiate a vote to depose the current president at any time, so it's as well the president keeps on the council's good side.

Following the retirement of Trachtiana Dertüla, an election was held to vote for the next president.

Wilhelmus J. Millitra	Wilhelmus' only previous experience was as councillor for southern Drachnamara. He is well remembered as being leader of the guerrillas in Peninsula de la Kulverint and this has won him some support. He is, however, widely recognised as a poor politician.	16.84%	842
Markus R. Dré@na	Markus was a more centrist candidate, promising massive social reforms to make the current system work in a far more clinical fashion. He recieved few votes outright, but many of his ideas have since been openely discussed in parliament.	2.86%	143

Climate

Kulverint has a Scandinavian climate, with mild summers and harsh winters. In the Trans-Kulverint Mountain range, however, the temperatures are significantly lower.

Population

The population of Kulverint is mostly contained in mainland Kulverint and Schkottland. Zwartania and Vyknov also contain significant populations, whilst Terra Libre Isla is made up of around 12,000 people who failed to escape.

Currency

The Kulverintian pound is currently quite weak, at £K1 = $0.22

Sport

Kulverint's national sport is Rugby Union, though football is also high on the agenda. Kulverint also put in a bid to host the 6th Rugby League World Cup, which they subsequently lost. They were to host the Championship of Ice, and did well in the Cup of Harmony 41. Kulverint came second in their group, behind then 10th ranked Pays de Horreur, in an extraordinary run which saw them beat everyone in their group at least once, qualifying for the 53rd world cup. In the event, though, they faced tough opposition from the 3rd, 10th and 17th ranked teams in the world, whilst Kulverint were only 40th.
