Krenintra Teken'viir is the Knootian ambassador to Crystal Spires and its representative at the International Union of Equality and Freedom. Krenintra speaks Dutch, English, and the Drow language. In all of these tongues, his voice tends to have a certain hissing quality to it, as if one were speaking to a serpent. He is well-regarded as a scholar of multiversal history.
History
House Teken'viir is one of the few survivors of a Drow alliance of Houses that was exiled to the surface after having lost a particularly savage House War. Although the drow are fastidiously xenophobic, the exiles were forced to deal with the technologically advanced races that had established themselves on the surface. Knootoss was, at the time, engaged in brutal wars to preserve its colonial holdings, and one of its senior military officers reached an understanding with the exiles, who still revelled in enslaving, torturing and killing their enemies. Though small in number, the Drow mercenaries would often turn up wherever there was slaughtering to be done.
Krenintra was born into House Teken'viir while his parents were working as mercenaries in the Knootian East Indies. Like most Drow, Krenintra was raised to be sadistic, arrogant, cruel, hedonistic, and treacherous. The eventual repatriation of colonial forces to the Knootian homeland meant, however, that the Drow had to adapt to life in a multi-cultural society. Many Drow did not integrate well, forming isolated communities and waging secret wars upon the Sindarin community, which had been around since the 1500s, as well as amongst themselves.
Krenintra managed to adapt to urban surface society better than his parents and kin, reigning in his destructive tendencies to play at being diplomat, taking pride in pulling off his power-mongering schemes in the most stylish and subtle ways possible. It helped that he was quite courteous and urbane, surrounding himself with beautiful things and beautiful persons and maintaining a lavish life-style using resources that had been appropriated from less fortunate kinsmen. This put him at odds with the matriarchal hierarchy of his House, which has had him marked for death since the 1980s.
Eager to escape assassination, Krenintra started to pursue more intimate cooperation with the humans, taking on foreign assignments on their behalf. His scholarly interests and proclivity for covert violence managed to grab the attention of the EIVD, but he was discredited by Wodrar My'duis and eventually barred from joining the organisation. He's pursued a rivalry with Wodrar ever since. Years of scheming, as well as a stroke of good luck that allowed him to blackmail a senior official, eventually landed Krenintra a position as ambassador to Crystal Spires as well as being accredited as its representative at the International Union of Equality and Freedom. As part of the job, he is also Knootoss' spokesman on non-human affairs.
Relationships
Like most Drow, Krenintra worships Searith as the mother of his race, and the corrupter of all things. However, his allegiance to religion is only nominal and has lapsed further since his House marked him for death. He considers humans to be easily manipulated fools, and absolutely despises surface elves, particularly so-called "high" or "light" elves. He regards most other non-humans as lesser races, potential slaves at best, but has resolved to hide this feeling for the purpose of keeping his cosy assignment abroad.
