Life
Kirin Rainard was born on June 8, 1956 in Eldura, Eldura Province, Holy Republic of Vekaiyu, several years before the rise of the Maxists. Kirin was something of an oddity among Vekaiyuns because of his unique fur patterns. Kirin came from a long line of soldiers and military officers, and he was eager to enlist. He was so eager, he lied about his age. While he was 17, the Vekaiyun military turned a blind eye about his dishonesty.
He was a model soldier and was very skilled in both marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat.
Assisting Vulshain
Vekaiyu had declared war on Merrill Rivers and his Democratic Republic of Vulshain, vowing to restore the Vulshainian Monarchy to power. Kirin was part of the 15th Infantry Division while his brother Dmitrii was part of the 8th Armored Corps. The Vekaiyuns arrived at 10:14 AM on September 19, 1976 in the Vulshainian city of Issig, coastal province capital of Aleksei. There the Confederate Resistance was desperately holding their ground against a massive siege by the Vulshainian Republican forces. The timely arrival of the Vekaiyuns was considered a miracle to the Vulshainian Confederates as the Vekaiyuns and Confederates drove the Republicans to defeat. Kirin was one of the Vekaiyun soldiers who waved the Vekaiyun and Vulshainian flags after the battle was won on September 21, 1976.
From Issig, the Vekaiyuns and Confederate Resistance made their way into Vulshain. Kirin was promoted to Solike General due to his exceptional skills and because a large number of Vekaiyun officers were killed in the 1977 Battle of Bluehedge Crossing. The following year, Kirin was caught in an explosion that knocked him unconscious into a nearby river. When he regained his senses, he discovered that the river had carried him west to where he was rescued by the Southern Yugoslavian soldiers who had also come to overthrow Rivers and his Republican Regime. While he had survived the explosion and the trip down the river, he had broken his leg and was forced to recover for several months. During this time, he met a Vulshainian vixen named Vikki. She was very beautiful, and Kirin fell in love with her at first sight.
He would often spend time with Vikki, trying to get to know, as well as woo, her. One night, they both got drunk. The next morning, they discovered that they had slept with one another. Kirin was shocked at his carelessness and became depressed. Kirin believed that he had raped her, but Vikki ensured him that he didn't and that they weren't that drunk to begin with. "Besides," she told him, "I love you too." Vikki had been in love with the Vekaiyun Vulpine just as he was of her.
After he recovered, he went back to the frontlines, rejoining his unit. Because of his bravery and skills in battle, he was promoted to Hejul General and became second-in-command of the 15th Infantry. After the war ended and Merrill Rivers had fled the country with what remained of his supporters, Kirin found out that Vikki had given birth to a baby vixen kit, Anna. Kirin was shocked, but he was very happy. He retired from the military and married Vikki, believing it to be wrong to abandon her and their kit. His family was shocked that he was marrying Vulshainian, especially one whose mother was a Lobo. To make matters worse, his parents disapproved of their relationshp as she was a Celiam Methodist, not to mention that they were deeply appalled that he had had a child out of wedlock.
Kirin chose to stay with his new wife and start a family in Vulshain. Kirin immigranted and was successfully approved for Vulshainian citizenship. He eventually had five more children: Natalka, Cecilia, Taisyia, Samuil, and Erik. Kirin didn't realize that his life living in Vulshain would be full of surprises.
Living in Vulshain: A Whole Lot of Culture Shocks
Vulshain was very different from Vekaiyu in many ways that Kirin wasn't prepared for. On his and Vikki's honeymoon they went to the beach. There he was shocked when he saw several women going around topless! Even worse, he saw a couple of men and women sunbathing naked! In Vekaiyu, there were absolutely no nude and topless beaches at all!
When he saw Vikki in a two-piece bikini, he was appalled and had a nasty nosebleed. He never could convince her to stop wearing a bikini when they went to the beach. He would constantly scold his Vulshainian wife for taking her top off a few times while at the beach. While he never once hit or beat Vikki while they were married, she did test his patience after one time walking around nude. Kirin loved her, but the customs and ways of his new home were at times trying.
He also had troubled adjusting to Vulshainian society, such as the fact that not everyone was a Vayan Catholic and everyone spoke both Unonian and Lobonese. In terms of religion, people were either Celiam Methodist, Laiatan Protestant, or Vayan Catholic. There were also Methodists and Russian Orthodox Christians. People also spoke Russian, a language he had difficulty learning. He also had trouble socializing with Lobos, a wolf-like humanoid race. While he was no bigot, being in a country filled with different customs and traditions was very overwhelming at times for him.
He also had to teach his wife had to cook, as whenever she cooked traditional food of Vekaiyu, she didn't make it spicy enough.
While he loved his wife and children, he sometimes felt homesick and longed to return to Vekaiyu. He would often talk about taking his family to visit Vekaiyu. However, relations between him and his Vekaiyun relatives had become strained due to Kirin's love of Vikki.
Loving Husband and Father
Kirin loved his children, although he was sometimes dismayed at their actions. He never once beat or spank his children, although there were times when he yelled at them. Once when Anna had gotten into a fight with a local bully, he instead had her spank him, as he felt that he hadn't been a proper father and that he was the one that needed to be punished.
Kirin was a Vayan Catholic, but his children had become Celiam Methodists, although Erik, his youngest kit, was baptisized as a Vayan Catholic. Cecilia converted to Laiatan Protestantism. Feeling betrayed, he tried to distance himself from his daughter, but found that he couldn't as he loved her too much. He reconciled with Cecilia and they became close once more. When he was able to, he would take his children to Vayan Catholic services, unaware that Vikki knew about it. If she was upset or angry at him for doing this behind her back, she never said.
Kirin came to realized that he was growing distant from his wife who he loved deeply. He believed that his uneasiness and difficulty in adapting to the customs and traditions of Vulshain were taking their toll on his and Vikki's marriage. Kirin would take her, away from the kits, to have time just to themselves. Kirin also swallowed his pride and his Vekaiyun upbringing and attempted to embrace several Vulshainian customs and traditions.
To his surprise, Vikki had been trying to make him more comfortable living in Vulshain. She had tried to learn Latin, as well as to practice singing traditional Vekaiyun songs, although she found them to be "...too dark for my tastes." When they went to beach by themselves, she had chosen to wear a one-piece swimsuit. They laughed till their sides hurt when they discovered what the other was trying to do.
They reaffirmed their vows, with Samuil acting as Kirin's best man, and Cecilia, Anna, Taisyia, and Natalka serving as Vikki's bridesmaids.
During the same time that he realized his frustrations' negative effects on his marriage, he also realized that those same frustrations were affecting his relations with his children. Deciding to be a better father, Kirin spent a lot of time with them, teaching them music as well as the history and lore of his native Vekaiyu. He also taught them many of Vekaiyu's sports.
Changes in Vekaiyu
While he was living in Vulshain, his native homeland Vekaiyu was experiencing drastic changes as Max Venavle overthrew the monarchy and placed himself in charge of Vekaiyu. Kirin hated what he saw and read about of what was happening to his homeland. Kirin tried to reconnect with his family during this time, begging them to move to Vulshain. They told him no. Kirin would lie awake sometimes at night, staring at the ceiling, wondering when the madness would end and Max would be removed from power.
Death
Kirin and Vikki both died on the day they were married on August 5, 2004, in Samuil's arms. Their deaths weighed heavily on his soul for many years.
Loving Memories
Kirin and Vikki maybe dead, but their spirits are eternal, watching over their children like guardian angels. It was their love and the memories of the love they gave their children that finally began to heal Samuil's heart and soul after he visited their graves upon becoming the new Monarch of Vulshain.
Physical Characteristics
Kirin had an unique and strange fur pattern. On his face he had two bluish-black markings on his white and red muzzle that started at the corners of his eyes and end at his nose, forming an arrow-like shape. The top part of his long red ears were edged with black, but had three white stripes on the botton part of his ears. A black stripe started at his forehead, went between his eyes and stopped at his nose. His forearms and lower legs were covered in white fur, while his fingers, fingers, palms, and toes were covered in red fur.
There was one thing that he hated about his fur pattern: he had a heart-shaped pattern on his butt. His wife Vikki would often tease him about it. However, while he hated the teasing by his relatives and military comrades, he actually enjoyed his wife's teasing about his 'butt heart.'
