The Democratic Socialist States of Jesselton is a huge, socially progressive nation, one of the newer and a minnow nations of the Atlantian Oceania region. It is located in the north-east of the region, on the continent of Calania. It is notable for its devotion to social welfare.
It has a compassionate and intelligent population of over 250 million who hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Social Equality. The average income tax rate is around 40%, though it is higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
