Baptism of Fire 39
Baptism of Fire (39th edition) was the first time the Haginonian national team had ventured outside Brugaria in international football. The realities of international football were all too stark for Haginonia and on the big stage failed to win a game out of the five they played. They managed to draw two matches late in the group stages but it was in vein as the Super Eagles exited the tournament without a whimper.
Positives for the side was of course the experience of the event, which they would need going into the world cup, but also the emergence of Emmanuel Sarcharga. After not getting any caps before the tournament he was brought in as a substitute for felow Maxie City United player, Lionel Mercado, who in the first 60 minutes in the first game against Beddgelert played terribly. After this first game, Sarcharga started the remaining four games and scored all but one goal in Haginonia's campaign finishing the tournament with 3 goals. After his blues in the first game, Lionel Mercardo did not make an appearance for the remainder of the tournament.
World Cup
World Cup 52
World Cup 53
World Cup 54
For the third World Cup in a row Haginonia will enter World Cup qualification. Coach Aloizs Sakars has stated that there will be much scrutiny placed on who is selected for this squad and spots will not be granted on name, but on merit. The squad for the World Cup was be announced on the 27th of December 2010 and included many changes. To previous squads, instead opting for youth and spots on merit, rather than future or current potential. This saw a supposed weakening in the midfield, but after just two games of qualification the whole team was working as one. That led to the side narrowly missing out on qualifying for the world cup, needing a win in their final game, but instead losing and resulting in a heartbreaking, yet inspiring end to the most successful campaign to date.
