Elemanu is a nation in the north of Yggdrasil, comprising of five islands and a mainland territory. Only the central island, Elemanu, is inhabited. The nation has been inhabited for almost a thousand years by successive waves of peoples, seeking a new land for one reason or another. In January 837, a full democracy was set up for the first time, with Sebastian Drake elected as head Elder.
Elemanu comprises of five islands - The Ice Fields, The Isle of Fire, The Great Rocks, The Land of El and Elemanu - and a mainland territory called The Wildlands. Elemanu is the only island with any major population centres, and is a mix of temperate forests, grassy plateaus and sandy beaches. The Ice Fields is subarctic island with little natural vegetation and large numbers of penguins, petrels, skuas and leopard seals. The Isle of Fire is dominated by a volcano and lava streams, and no permanent population of life. The Great Rocks is dominated by a number of large mountains, and though is rich with life, has few flat areas suitable of human habitation. The Land of El is a temperate island full of life, and held sacred by the people of Elemanu - people are generally not allowed to build any permanent structures on the island, and hunting is strictly regulated. The Wildlands is a vast, heavily forested territory, home to many large carnivores and border by two great rivers. There are some very small but permanent habitations, but in general, the people prefer to live on Elemanu proper.
