Format
The tournament operates in a similar manner to the World Cup, in that teams are drawn into groups at first, before progressing to a knockout bracket.
Group stage
The group stage is a single round-robin league. All matches end after ninety minutes plus stoppages as determined by the referee. Ties in the group stage are broken by the following criteria, in order:
- Points
- Goal difference
- Head to Head points
- Goals scored
- Number of wins
- Drawing of lots
Knockout stage
Every match in the knockout stage is a single leg tie, where if scores are level after ninety minutes, extra time is employed. If after thirty minutes of extra time, the scores are still level, there is a penalty shootout.
