Chimaean Armed Forces
The Commonwealth of Chimaea had a strong military tradition stretching back over three hundred years. From the first Chimaean regiments in the Royal British Army to the world-class military machine of the twenty-first, Chimaeans had a strong history of bravery, innovation and victory in many battlefields.
The Chimaean Armed Forces were formally commissioned in 1784 in a provision in the Constitution which allowed for its formation and maintenance for the defence of 'all lands of interest to the Commonwealth'.
It took three more years, however, till the Royal Chimaean Regiments were reorganised and retrained sufficiently to be sworn in as the new Commonwealth Army and Navy. During the reign of the one and only Chimaean King, these forces swelled in size to almost triple that provided by the Constitution. The King, relying heavily on conscripts, began a campaign of annexation until the Army and Navy was spread too thin to successfully keep down the many insurrections that were occurring in the far-flung reaches of the Commonwealth.
When the King was deposed the Governor of the time brought a period of peace and stability that saw a massive reduction in the armed forces, which were largely looked upon as the tools of the former tyrant. So when Street Island demanded independence it was largely expected to receive it. However, the Governor deemed Street Island too important a strategic asset and reformed the Army proper. It was sent into Street Island and what followed was one of the blackest periods in Chimaean history as 'dissidents' and alleged supporters of the independence movement were rounded up and brutally massacred by the unprofessional, unprepared and conscripted Army.
There was international outcry and while the Government of the day ignored the calls to grant Street Island independence, the Army and Navy were reorganised into the Chimaean Armed Forces, a fully professional, well-trained and disciplined force. Compulsory military training programs were created so that any future need for conscripts would be met with professionally trained soldiers.
It was this reinvigorated force that answered the Allied call to arms in World War I and World War II. These two conflicts cemented the Chimaean Armed Forces' reputation for unflinching courage and honour in all theatres of the wars.
From Korea to Amerigo, from Vietnam to Colombia, the Chimaean Armed Forces have gone where angels feared to tread, into the places where Heaven and Humanity had given up, where the difference between life and death lay in discipline, training and a single-minded determination to get the job done. In all its roles, as defender of the commonwealth, upholder of democracy, international peacekeeper or humanitarian interventionist, the Chimaean Armed Forces have carved their names on the stone of history.

The Chimaean Army is a well-trained, professional part of the Armed Forces and consists of many different branches and regiments, including the Airborne Regiments, the mostly classified Special Forces branches and Armoured Companies.
The Chimaean Army is Chimaea's largest method of defence and offence, capable of reacting to any situation in any part of the world with rapidity and maximum force. Time and again in Chimaean history the Army had proven its strength and courage, from the jungle warfare of Western Clock Hill during the Chimaea-Clock Hill war to the desert and temperate warfare in Hrstrovokia and neighbouring Boroglia.
Though a force to be reckoned with on its own, the Chimaean Army liases closely with all other parts of the Chimaean Armed Forces and Intelligence Organisations. A model Chimaean Army operation is the intervention in Colombia following the conflict between the Colombian Government and FARC rebels. Coupled with Naval, Air Force, Intelligence and other Army assets provided by Chimaea, Knootoss and Clock Hill, Chimaean peacekeepers were able to effectively curtail violence against civilians, often in dangerous and volatile situations. With the dissolving of FARC, the Chimaea Army was able to conduct crippling raids on drug traffickers and militia using Special Forces backed by the Marine Corp and the Air Force.
The current commanding officer of the Chimaean Army is General Sebastian de Santuro. With the retirement of General Garrison as Commander in Chief, he is also Commander in Chief of the Chimaean Armed Forces.
All Chimaean Forces are technically part of the Chimaean Army, though they may operate within the Navy and Air Force. Officially, Chimaea has never admitted to the existance of its various special forces groups, and anything to do with them, such as capabilities and size, has never been disclosed.
The Chimaean Army has its own air units, mostly helicopter fleets, escort fighters and transport aircraft.
- Budget: $7, 142, 784, 576, 743 USD
- Active Army Personnel: 9, 662, 843 (male and female)
- Combat Troops: 3, 739, 573 (male and female)
- Logistical, Support, Army Air Units et cetera [others]: 5, 923, 264 (male and female)
Main infantry weapons:
The Chimaean Army's main weapon of choice at present is the CR60, a modular OICW-type weapon which was brought in during the Styles Administration to replace the ageing CR48 which has seen action during Amerigo and the initial Hrstrovokian conflicts. The CR48 is still used by some specialist units and special forces units.
Recently, to replace the problematic CR60, two new weapons have been under development: the CR65 and the CR66. The CR65 is a demolitions weapon for specialist units and special forces use--it features two main parts, the first being the top barrelled high-explosive grenade launcher, which has an effective range of 1, 000 meters and a minimum range of 100-200 meters. It can be fired in an arc or straight and can be set for delayed explosion, impact explosion and airburst. The lower barrel part is a close-combat military shotgun, with an effective range of 350 meters--less spread and more force. The CR65 is made in the bullpup layout and features a stamped steel and reinforced polymer body with shock-absorbant rubber in the stock and handgrip. The CR65 has a picatinny rail on top for scope and computer support.
The CR66 is a standard rifle and high-explosive rifle combination. Adapted from the style and body design of the CR65, it features an upper-barrel rifle which is an updated version of the kinetic part of the CR60. The lower-barrel fires a high-explosive, high calibre round; both parts have a effective range of 800-900 meters. The CR66 is designed to phase out the CR60 and is already deployed to various units for testing, results have been overwhelmingly positive. The body is made from stamped steel and lightweight polymer, with shock-absorbant rubber in the stock and handgrip. The CR66 also has iron sites as well as a picatinny rail on top for various add-ons such as scopes.
The Chimaean Navy has a long history as one of the best in the Empire of Baron region, frequently backing invasion forces, providing troop transport and going on interdiction missions in Chimaean territorial waters.
Famously, the then fledgling Navy was part of the Syskeyian blockade of Amerigo during the Anti-Slavery War; as part of the blockade, Chimaean Naval assets provided cover and transport for Rastonian, Syskeyian and Chimaean troops to establish a beachhead under blistering enemy fire and an active air war.
During the latter part of the Bryce Administration the funding for the Navy was boosted and a massive reconstruction and refurbishmentof all aspects of the Navy was carried out; something which is still continuing in its final stages in 2004 and was due to be completed by 2005.
From a single fleet consisting of two Carrier Groups, the Navy has grown into three fleets, each capable of providing offence and defence capability and support to all other Chimaean Armed Forces in two possible major wars at once.
The commanding officer of the Chimaean Navy is Admiral Juliett Esterfield.
The Chimaean Navy has three main Fleets in active service, designed to fight two major wars simultaeneously whilst maintaining the security of Chimaea and Baron.
This is the primary active-duty Fleet of the Chimaean Navy, and the biggest. It contains multiple carrier groups which can each maintain a considerable forward presense in any theatre. Currently the First Fleet is deployed in strength in Syskeyia, Colombia, Somalia (Earth III) and Tanah Burung.
This is a support and backup Fleet of the Chimaean Navy and fulfills multiple roles, most often as support for the First and Third Fleets. It is currently deployed in Chimaea, Street Island, and Tanah Burung.
This is the "Home Fleet" of the Chimaean Navy; it is responsible for maintaining security in Chimaea and Baron. It is only ever deployed in and near Baron except for dire emergencies. [OOC: You guys are most likely to encounter the Third Fleet]
The Coastguard is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Chimaean coastal borders. It's a specialised force trained in shore-to-sea operations and is trained akin to a police force rather than a conventional military force. The Coastguard liases closely with the Navy, in particular the Third Fleet, for most operations.
The Chimaean Navy has a mostly offense-oriented airforce, consisting mostly of fighters, and multi-role aircraft launched from carriers. It has a small helicopter fleet. The primary multirole fighter in the Chimaean Navy is the (CV) SC-42 Airhawk.
- Budget: $12, 289, 474, 846, 357 USD
- Active Personnel: 5, 764, 357 (male and female)
The Chimaean Air Force is, comparitively, the youngest of the branches of the Chimaean Armed Forces. The Air Force mostly plays support roles, such as troop and equipment transport and air-to-ground strikes.
In recent years, however, with the added boost in funding by the Styles Administration, the Chimaean Air Force has expanded and revitalised. Research programs with Clock Hill and other Baron nations developed advanced technology, such as the future-concept SC-42 AirHawk, a multi-role aircraft designed to outperform Europe's Eurofighter Typhoon, America's Joint-Strike Fighter and many other modern fighters in the world today.
The Chimaean Air Force has been deployed in such theatres as Colombia, Syskeyia, Hrstrovokia, Clock Hill, Pushka, Somalia (Earth III) and Street Island. It was initially trained by the more experienced Clock Hill and New Rastonian Air Forces.
The commanding officer of the Chimaean Air Force is Air Chief Marshall Lord Dean Desilva.
- Budget: $9, 274, 643, 764, 854 USD
- Active Personnel: 1, 894, 634 (male and female)
The Chimaean Marine Corp is the fourth main branch of the Chimaean Armed Forces; the Marine Corp liases with all three other branches and is mostly based off the three Chimaean Fleets. Usually the Marines are the first into any action and have multiple roles to play in any offensive, from front-line troops, to peacekeeping, to support and logistics. Chimaean Marines are deployed around the world in places such as Colombia, Syskeyia and Somalia (Earth III).
The commanding officer of the Chimaean Marine Corp is General Ladislao Marroquín.
- Budget: $3, 683, 457, 237, 383 USD
- Active Personnel: 953, 012
The Chimaean Reserve Force is both the National Guard and the Active Reserves from which reserve troops are drawn from. Chimaea traditionally has compulsory military service for those turning 18 (though this can be easily avoided in present times, most take this option between High School and University for various reasons) which lasts for 1-2 years, depending on the branch of reserves chosen. They may also chose an extended course in which advanced subjects and specialities within the military is taught.
The Chimaean Reserves have served in Chimaea during the terrorist campaign launched against Chimaea by the Street Island Nationalists and in Street Island during many crises.
- Available Reserve Force: 583, 253, 672 (male and female)
**Not all of these are Active in the Reserve services; numbers fluctuate day to day as the full-time course normally lasts 1-2 years. Chimaea has an estimated total available military-trained personnel of 914, 000, 000.**
- Budget: $2, 475, 276, 835, 782 USD
The Commonwealth of Chimaea is the founder of, and resides in, the region of Baron along with 50-odd other nations. With the rapid increase of the number of nations within Baron, an organisation of Baron nations called the Grand House of Baron was created to unite the region for the purposes of better coordination, security, economic prosperity and regional cohesiveness. Chimaea is one of the major contributors to the Grand House of Baron and as such the Chimaean Armed Forces takes an active part in the security of Baron.
Baron security council
Just like the U.N. Security Council, this body is responsible for organising the defence of Baron, of protecting Baron interests abroad, providing peacekeepers for peacekeeping missions etc. The Security Council has four permanent member nations, those with the largest military capabilities. Chimaea is one of the most militarily powerful nations in Baron and thus is one of the four permanent nations.
Chimaea has around $3, 689, 745, 261, 156 USD invested in various Baron projects, including:
Baron intervention taskforce
This is a historical part of Baron defence. Initially made when Chimaea had the biggest influence in Baron to pro-actively provide forces for the defence of democracy and human rights. Since that era is long past, this is the strictly military arm of the Baron Security Council. All Baron nations contribute military forces to this, varying in size by economy and population.
The Chimaean Armed Forces is the single largest contributor of military resources and personnel to this organisation.
Baron defence grid
The Baron Defence Grid is a network of armed satellites that are used by Baron nations, mainly to monitor and prevent a limitted nuclear exchange. They also function as weather satellites, communications satellites and a coordination system for the various Baron organisations. Chimaea is a major contributor towards this project.Drug use has recently become a big problem for the Chimaean chroniclers. Delusional fantasy has permeated the essence of their adolescent musings.
