[edit] Name

The name Cennazluga (pronounced \'ken.as.'loo.guh\ ) derives from the native languages of the islands. The Canacet words 'cenna'/'cennat', meaning "islands/island dwellers", plus 'luja', meaning "sea/ocean", together translate as "the island filled sea" or "sea of islanders".

The formal title of the nation is the Confederate Regency of Cennazluga, abbreviated as CRC. Citizens of Cennazluga utilize several demonyms. Officially sanctioned adjectives are Cennat, Cennazine or Cennazlugan/Cennatlujan. Cennatlujer or Cennazluger have gained popularity in colloquial usage, particularly among athletes. A pejorative nickname sometimes hocked at people of Cennazlugan origin in other countries is "lugee".

[edit] Architecture

[edit] Indeginous

One of the best examples of native architecture is the traditional house of the Canacet people.

[edit] Colonial

There are several architectural styles associated with the colonial history of Cennazluga. Most of the largest buildings on the islands were built during the Colonial period. These palaces and villas were meant to showcase the grandeur of the colonial governments. Colonists were sent from several Meiorcan kingdoms, influences of which an be seen in the different styles of colonial buildings across the entire archipelago.

Examples of Colonial period architecture include the Regent's Villa, Colonial Palace, the MP Residence, Ambassador Hall, the Merchants' House, and the White Palace.

[edit] Modern

The first building in Cennazluga to fully embrace modern design principles and construction methods was the first Citizens Assembly building which began construction just two months after the ratification of the Cennat Constitution in 1956.

The Supplemental Government Offices (SGO) building, built in 1975, is an excellent example of architecture that is dynamically responsive to the climate and culture of the islands. A trellised pergola colonnade surrounds the perimeter of the building's site inviting outdoor social interactions and enjoyment and mitigating tropical heat. The part of the building housing offices is low slung with long bands of fenestration strongly emphasizing horizontality and a sense of "grounding". This symbolizes the aim and mandate of government agencies to serve the people. Also, per law adopted in 1973, the SGO building incorporates many environmentally sustainable features including locally based concrete, passive solar heating/cooling, and water reclamation/recycling systems.

Of particular note is the new Citizens Assembly building, completed in 2006 at the 50th anniversary of Cennat Independence, built to better accommodate the needs of the governmental body. This building encompasses many new ideas about the nature of architecture and government. It was designed to be a very public building, with the sloping surfaces, including the roof, acting as a public park. There is also unprecedented public access to the building and Assembly members' offices, as well as a popular waterfront restaurant. It is frequently possible to meet and mingle with national representatives during lunch hours.
