Caldan Foreign Policy
Caldan foreign policy refers to the relations of the Caldan Union of the Resurgent Dream with other nations and peoples; its actions in multinational, regional, and global bodies; the institutions and personnel who maintain such relations and implement such actions; and the set of interests, aspirations, and ideas which the Resurgent Dream seeks to advance on a regional and global stage. The Resurgent Dream's four most important international relationships are with Excalbia, Knootoss, Pantocratoria, and Xirnium. The Resurgent Dream also has a special connection with Laneria and Nova Nederlandia, with which it shares the Vasconian continent, and with Abt, with which it shares the Ambaran continent. However, the Resurgent Dream has historically maintained relationships with many other nations.
History
The early of Caldan foreign policy is a history of attempts to build a coalition against the Hanoverian claimants to the British throne and against the forces of Theodoor van Cortlandt. From the time of Charles I, these claims reflected a reimagined Jacobitism with emphasis of religious tolerance, national self-determination, the dignity of the individual, and even the principles of representative government. However, there was no direct contradiction to traditional Legitimist principles. If Caldas made common cause with republicans in Laneria and Nova Nederlandia, it was because Hanoverian claims to those territories were false and the only rightful claimant, Charles I, had recognised the republics, having no wish to force himself on people who did desire a constitutional monarchist form of government. The Caldan response to the Salliane War represented the first fundamental break with this policy. The war led to the abolition of slavery in Laneria and Caldan dominance on the Vasconian continent. However, it also gave Caldans their first taste of revolutionary terror. Future generations would always approach such things with more caution.
The Resurgent Dream was less involved in international affairs after the Salliane War, although it maintained a prominent position in the Western Atlantic and a dominant position on Vasconia. However, during this period of general non-involvement, the Resurgent Dream did obtain dynastic union with Finara and Hipolis. The Resurgent Dream returned to the world stage in 2004. It briefly tied its fortune to that of Menelmacar, then a major world power. The Resurgent Dream joined VERITAS and participated alongside Menelmacar in a conflict in Zvarinograd. The Resurgent Dream also joined the Trade Network Association during this time. This was also a period of increasing ties with Pantocratoria and Excalbia in which the Entente would soon be rooted.
In late 2004, the Resurgent Dream was drawn into the Second Ambaran War. The war was provoked when Sword of God terrorists, led by fake angel Sebben ap Balor and sponsored by the [[
