Bunker Age
The Bunker Age was the period in history in the world of Leninist Dynasty, after World War III, when conditions on Earth's surface becam unbearable to continued human habitation due to nuclear contamination caused by the wholesale use of nuclear devices during the war. The Bunker Era ended through a combination of factors, but the final kickstart to the repopulation of the surface was the quest of Cinimod Ttam. Nuclear contamination of the surface seems to have faded to tolerable levels long before that (though it might linger in some isolated territories).
In most parts of the world, the B.E. was characterized by machine rule.
End of the Bunker Age
The Bunker Age ended when Cinimod Ttam broke the sealing plate that had locked his people in the bunkers. With the way to the surface now cleared, the RvneTek, which happened to be in the same bunker, could extend its influence onto the surface world. The experience of years of digital warfare with the Heart of Darkness had left the corporation with the perfect weaponry to match the AIs that dominanted the surface world. Other survivors groups that had made a living in shelters elsewhere were already able to walk the surface, but no extended existence of humans was possible on the surface, due to the mechanoids.
The RvneTek's digital offensive against the mechanoids ment that their rule ended within a few years. The rusting remains of their somethimes gigantic bodies were presumably recycled as for spare parts, though some might also have been reactivated in the service of humans (such as in Japan, and the character Tanya - some machinery of the various factions of ARKIII's world might also be reactivated Mechanoids from the period of Machine Rule).
With the mechanoids disabled, survivors in other places were able to build up an extended presence on the surface - within a short time of the fall of the Mechanocracy, the United Greater American Continent, Leninist Dynasty, Islamic Union and African Empire were dominant world powers (though some of these might have existed before, as their areas had not been affected by machine rule or nuclear contamination - the latter has especially been put forward for the Islamic Union - their status as a great power is explained best by the fact that they likely had an uninterrupted development of surface civilization during the Bunker Age).
The rise of the superstates also meant the end to RuneTech hegemony, as the corporation ws not fit to combat human nations. It was dissolved at some point, possibly after military confrontation with the LD, which came to dominate the territory were Cinimod Ttam and the RuneTech had first entered the surface world.
