Brad the Tyrant was a dictator most remembered as the founder and eventual griefer of Sparrow, one of the largest player created regions in NationStates during 2003.

The nickname Brad the Tyrant is an adaptation of The Evergreen Republic of Bradfordsburg, the nation that Brad founded Sparrow.

Brad the Tyrant was the first and only president in Sparrow's short history. His response to the Sparrowivian Political Crisis of December 2003 led to an IP ban and his removal as founder via an unprecedented act of moderator intervention.

Political Crisis in Sparrow

In late December 2003, Bradfordsburg was serving simultaneously as Sparrow's founder and elected president.

After threatening to cancel presidential elections only weeks earlier when a measure to repeal term limits failed in parliament, some MP's had popularized the term "Brad the Tyrant" in editorials that appeared in Sparrow's media publications. While no candidates had yet announced intentions to run against Brad the Tyrant, several nations openly discussed seeking to replace Bradfordsburg as president.

With presidential elections only 2 weeks away, Brad the Tyrant announced an executive order and created the position of Executive Lieutenant.

Bradfordsburg announced that Executive Lieutenant was a position to be filled by presidential appointment, without parliamentary approval. The Republic of Pacific Bell, a real-life friend of Brad the Tyrant himself, was installed as Executive Lieutenant of Sparrow on December 19, 2003. Many nations objected, including the UN Delegate Tygaland, who called an emergency session of parliament to review the constitutionality of Bradfordsburg's executive order.

Before parliament could discuss the matter, Pacific Bell assumed his role as Executive Lieutenant and began sending threatening messages to nations who voiced dissenting opinions in the region.
