History
Creation of Albundania
The land we know today as Albundania was once made up of 5 kingdoms: The Privadona Kingdom, The Dazaarki Kingdom, the Kingdom of Illinopolis, The Llanuras Empire, and the Albundanian empire (which was located mostly in what is now the Borderlands region). The kingdoms were constantly warring but finally, in 1843, Albundania united the region under their rule. Little is known about this period of time, except that Albundania was by far the most technologically advanced kingdom in the area.
Early History (1843-1950)
The first king of the Albundanian Empire was King Theriot the First, who is still considered to be one of Albundania's finest rulers. When, in 1845, Dazaarkistan rebelled, he quickly sent troops and ended the rebellion in less than a week, remarkably fast given the technology they had at that time. However, in 1893, he passed away and, with no apparent heir, Yurim Liszeo and Brian Helms fought over the crown.
Albundanian Heir War (November 1893 - March 1894)
The Albundanian Heir War began with the passing of King Theriot the First. Two major sides appeared in the conflict over who the next king was. Brian helms had the support of the Dazaarkistan region along with large parts of the Llanuras region, while Yurim Liszeo had the majority of the rest of the country. The army also largely supported Liszeo. The war really started when Liszeo's troops, called Royals, attacked a major city held by Helms' troops (called Nationals) near the city of Mericana. With only 1,000 casualties sustained the whole week of fighting, the Royals forced the Nationals to retreat to the city itself. With Royal troops hot in pursuit, the Nationals staged an ambush and crushed the 10,000 man Royal army.
The effects of the battle were big, with many Royal supporters losing faith in Liszeo after the massive defeat, so Liszeo had to do something fast. The solution was Operation Polytack, Liszeo's desperate attempt to spread the National forces thin over a large front and drive a hole right into the National's capital in Albundania City. The operation started in December of 1893, and the initial phase lasted well into March of 1894, when 19,000 Royal troops breached the line just miles away from Albundania city. The National troops were too spread out, as expected, and Brian Helms was captured. He would later be executed for being a traitor to the state of Albundania.
Rule of Yurim Liszeo (1894 - 1935)
Yurim Liszeo took office just a day after the war concluded, and did very little his first few years. In 1896, though, he made the first trade contact with outside nations (in this case Comorostan) and got Albundania into the world stage at last. Though very little happened during his reign politically, technologically Albundania was charging ahead. Radios were invented in 1902, and Televisions in 1906. Famous traveler Trython Peýoris brought back new technologies, such as the secret to flight (in 1911) and steam power (also in 1911). Albundania also started building it's first sports facilities, but they wouldn't really be used until the late half of the 1900's, after Yurim was dead.
Yurim's rule was also one of poverty, though. The Stock Market Crash of 1921 remains the second worst crash in Albundanian history to date, and was mainly due to the economy being heavily based in foreign markets which were also crashing at the time. Albundania learned their mistake though, and Liszeo passed some controversial laws that helped Albundania recover faster. Yurim Liszeo died in 1935 of a heart attack in the middle of the night. Power was passed onto his son, Raul Liszeo.
Rule of Raul Liszeo (1935 - 1949)
Raul Liszeo is considered to be the man who brought democracy, he created the Free Albundania group in 1948 after a decade of doing almost nothing. However, not many people liked this, and in February of 1949, he was murdered by members of a right wing group called the Albundania First. The rivalry between the two still exists.
Recent History (1950-2010)
Albundania changed rapidly during these times, with the perfection of phones and finally mastering jet flight, to discovering the world of sports and the world that lie beyond Albundania, this was a time of some turmoil for Albundania.
Cabinet Rule in Albundania (1949-1989)
Cabinet rule was a notoriously ineffective time in Albundanian politics when nothing important happened. Social changes were very rapid during this time though, leading many to question the government's oppressive rule over them. Protests about this, though, were often inefficient and those involved were often arrested. It was during this time that metal music found its way into Albundania though, and was a very culturally defining movement in Albundania.
Rule of Kyle Liszeo (1990-2008)
Despite the first decade where he did nothing, the second decade became very important. Albundania at this point was pretty unknown on the world stage, but that changed when Albundania helped Comorostan fight a terrorist organization called the Freedom Fighters of Light in 2005. After a brief fight on the land, Albundanian troops helped Comorostan demolish an entire city to defeat the new terrorist threat. Albundania was relatively well known on the world stage at that point, and helped Comorostan again in what is now called Hotel Kuroma (2006) where Albundanian forces helped forces from Comorostan, Euro-Trash, and Jakra fight genocidal rebels, and pretty well trapped down a major leader of the hostile forces. It was from this operation the the UFSC was born. Albundania is still a member of the UFSC today.
But, the people were fed up with the monarchy and, in 2008, the group Free Albundania (ironically founded by an ancestor of Kyle) stage a bloodless coup and removed Liszeo from power. Albundania had its first elections, and Ryan Timothy beat Kyle by a landslide.
Presidency of Ryan Timothy (2008-2020)
Ryan Timothy would be president for three terms of four years, and would accomplish nothing important on the world stage, as Albundania all but disappeared again. However, he made some very important victories at home, including making the marker a bit freer, and fixing the subsequent depression that followed. The largest depression in Albundanian history to date was fixed in the course of a month due to his leadership. His ability to fix problems kept him in office until 2020, when a surprise candidate stole the presidency from him.
Modern Times (2021 - Present)
Albundania has gone away from costly wars in the last decade, and has undergone massive cultural growth, including the successful football team that Albundania has. But this would also prove to be the most turbulant of decades for the Albundanian Federation, with a major succession movement that would cost many many lives.
Presidency of Kyle Liszeo (2020-2024)
Little happened in the shock reelection of this ex-dictator, but he did steer Albundania towards cultural development and passed many laws to aid artists and musicians in his terms. He also finally got Albundania out of its deficit and made good on his campaign promise to build a major highway system in Albundania. Albundania thoroughly prospered under Kyle Liszeo, but the 2024 election came around and a young man, Liszeo's old general, John Lemanski thoroughly charmed his way into office.
Presidency of John Lemanski (2024-Present)
John Lemanski came into office and ruled for only a year before the nation started falling apart. Arskanskigrad became the center of a growing autonomy movement for the Dazaarkistan region, one which John Lemanski had helped put down with military troops when he served under Kyle Liszeo. Realizing that they were getting no concessions from the new president, Dazaarki rebel leader Sam White organized a revolt that actually succeeded in taking over Dazaarki city, whereas the mayor of Arskanskigrad declared his own Independence, starting the Albundanian Civil War. Since the end of that war, Albundania's economy has hit a boom and Albundanians are living a dream life for the first time in many decades, with only a 2.7% unemployment rate. However, the time of prosperity was not to last, as the Akarkans would launch a surprise offensive in February of 2031, catching Albundanian completely off guard.
Albundanian Civil War (2025-2029)
Starting in major fashion with the entire Dazaarkistan region sans Albundania City declaring independence and prompting Albundanian military response. The rest of the region looked in horror as Albundanian military troops violently engaged with rebels, killing them by the thousands. But rebel leader Sam White had a trick up his sleeve: Akarkan military intervention. They arrived just in time to prevent Albundanian military forces from retaking Arskanskigrad. The first major battle of the war was, in fact, the battle of Arskanskigrad River, which featured the outnumbered Akarkans obliterating the unprepared Albundanians, and advancing on their retreat all the way to Lemanskigrad. January of '26 rolled around, and the end to the war was no where in sight. Lemanskigrad was still besieged (the longest time an Albundanian city had been besieged) and Dazaarki rebels were operating in Albundania City, dealing blows everywhere they could. The war would stay a stalemate until June '27 when Akarkan troops finally entered Lemanskigrad expecting an easy fight against a demoralized opponent. What they found was a very devoted group of Albundanian fighters who, despite being outnumbered 1:7, held the city for a month of straight fighting before the 25th army could break through the line a few miles north of the city and relieve the exhausted defenders.
Winter of '27 rolled around, and the Akarkans were defending the regional border, but they were losing men faster than they could replace them. So the ultimate decision for them was to call a truce and evacuate to their own country, abandoning the Dazaarki revolutionary movement. The rest of the war was a mop up for the Albundanians that finally ended in February 21st, 2029, when Sam White finally surrendered to the Albundanian military in Dazaarki city.
Akarkan Offensive (2031 - Present)
The Akarkan offensive began on February 15th, 2031, with a surprise blitzkreig style of warfare driving towards Lemanskigrad. The war is ongoing, and still in it's very early stage.
Albundanian Culture
Albundanian culture is defined by music and sports, and in some cases architecture. Albundania is a very unique country with many different things to offer it's residents and tourists.
Sports in Albundania
Albundanian sports are dominated by football and Futsal. While Albundania has no official futsal league, they do have the Albundanian Major Football League, which showcases some of the worlds finest strikers. Tennis and Hockey are also rather popular, but neither of those have a league, either.
Music in Albundania
Albundanian music is dominated by rock 'n' roll, and specifically metal. The Albundanian band The Cover Gods have won several international awards for their music and ability to play most genres of music well. Albundanians are particularly interested in their music, and have a good deal of musical talent.
